Throwback CUP: Tire failure at Martinsville makes Daniel Bouchard the first driver to finish last twice in the Cup Series

Daniel Bouchard picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Strictly Stock Series career at the Martinsville Speedway when his #1 unsponsored Oldsmobile suffered tire problems after he completed 1 of 50 laps.

The finish came in his 5th start, was his first on the circuit since Hamburg when he completed all 25 laps under power, 1 race ago

The entry list for the Martinsville race was bumped back up to a full field of 42 cars after the previous two races was run on the same day, with 21 cars completing at Langhorne while 23 was at Hamburg. On race day, Bouchard would roll off starting in the 34th spot while the #2 unsponsored Ford of Dexter Black would roll off in the last spot. It didn't take long for chaos to break out as the #120 of James Stabilito was spun out in Turn 2 by the #51 of Max Anderson, as the caution would come out. At the same time, Bouchard began to slow and pulled down the backstretch pit road and into his pit stall as his crew tried to find the problem, finding that tire problems as the cause and the car was parked after just one lap, as Bouchard was listed "out" and in the final spot by the end of the second lap.

Finishing 41st was the #01 unsponsored Oldsmobile of Jack Lagasee, who received damage during the first caution, causing the car to be tired by Lap 3. 40th was the #46 of Rubens Wanderley, himself a victim of crash damage on Lap 18. Rounding out the Bottom Five in 39th was the #213 of Alexander Rowe and 38th was the #7 Hudson of Evan Hunter, both taken out in the same wreck on Lap 26, Rowe's car was destroyed, while Hunter rode around two more laps before pulling in as well.
