Formula 1: Broken gearbox prevents Trevor Collins from completing a lap at Monza

Trevor Collins picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in the Season 2 Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza when his #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team fell out with gearbox problems without completing any of the 7 laps.

The finish came in his 6th career start. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 4th for car #22 and the 2nd for gearbox issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 13th for the #22 and the 11th for gearbox issues. Collins was one of several rookies drivers who signed on to compete in the SCRL's highest Formula division, with Collins finishing 17th in his debut at Melbourne. A 19th at Bahrain, 11th at Hockenheimring, 13th at Zandvoort before scoring his points of the season with a 7th in the last round at CTMP.

On race day, Collins was scheduled to roll off starting 3rd while starting in the final spot was the the #19 Williams Martini Racing of Patrick Smith, but just as the field was coming out of the final turn to begin the race, Collins followed the pace car down pit road as the green flag was waved, pulling into his pit stall as the car was looked over by the team, discovering that the gearbox had been broken and was beyond repair with the car being listed as "out" by the 4th lap as the car could be seen still in the pit stall with the crew working up until the fourth lap. Meanwhile at the same time the crew was still working on the car, as the field came out of the final turn to complete the first lap, Zandvoort last-place finisher the #26 Scuderia Toro Rosso of David Solomon pulled into the pits as well, reporting of a blown engine before pulling into his stall. While both Collins and Solomon were both scored having not completed a lap, the final spot was awarded to Collins.

Finishing 20th was the #5 Scuderia Ferrari of Richard Torres, who also made a trip to pit road on the fifth circuit, reporting problems with the transmission of the car, as the team lost a lap in the pits working on repairs before sending their driver back out to be running at the finish, the only other car to not finish on the same lap as the race leaders.
