Formula E: Bizarre crash on pace lap at Vancouver gives Danyal Gitirokh the 5th last place finish of his career

Danyal Gitirokh picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Formula E Series Presented by Twitter career in the Season 2 Vancouver ePrix at the Vancouver Street Circuit when his #3 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum was involved in a multi-car crash without completing any of the 13 laps.

The finish came in his 3rd career start. In the SCRL Formula E Series, it's the 3rd for car #3 and the 5th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 15th for the #3 and the 230th from a crash. Gitirokh has been competing in the SCRL for several series over the past few years but has only found success one time in the SCRL, scoring his first and only win in the SCRL in the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series in the season finale at Martinsville. Gitirokh finished 12th in his FE debut at Adelaide before finishing 8th in the last round at Shanghai.

The entry list for Vancouver was bumped up from 20 cars to 22 as AJ Jones, driving for A.J. Foyt and Eli Bright, driving for Roger Penske, would both be making their Formula E Series debuts.

On race day, Gitirokh rolled off 21st while starting in the final spot was the #98 Integrity Energee Drink as the field was making their way through the final two turns, a bizarre crash happened as Gitirokh and the #12 Verizon of Karl-Jong Bensson cars got together and the two cars merged together and crashed. While at the same time a few feet further along the track, the #2 Verizon of Cameron Hathaway and the #77 Lucas Oil / Protect the Harvest of Chakat Lightingblaze also crashed themselves with all four drivers having not completed a lap.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 18th was the #67 Hartman Oil of Blaise Zebrataur, who was the last car on the lead lap, finishing 27 seconds behind the race leaders.
