Formula 1: Tony Newman fails to complete a lap at Hockenheimring

Tony Newman picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in the Season 2 Grand Prix of Germany at the Hockenheimring when his #21 Haas F1 Team was involved in a multi-car crash without completing any of the 7 laps.

The finish came in his 3rd career start. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 3rd for car #21 and the 14th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 17th for the #21 and the 229th from a crash. Newman had already found success in the SCRL, having scored 5 career wins and is a former champion in the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 division. Newman's Formula 1 career started off with a 15th at Melbourne before quickly finding victory lane in the last round at Bahrain.

On race day, Newman rolled off 5th while starting in the final spot was the #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Trevor Collins. Collins would hold on to the last spot as the field raced their way through the first four turns when the leaders entered the esses in Turn 5 when the battle for last quickly ended. Newman would lose control of his car and slid off track, hitting the tire barriers hard as several others also struggled to get by the turn cleanly, while they would drive away and continue on in the race, Newman's car was done for the day, with the driver climbing out of his car disgusted, his shot of winning two in a row, over.

Finishing 21st was the #77 Williams Martini Racing of Bryson Hill, who also was knocked out in a crash just four laps later in the same turn, but he was able to limp back around to the garage before retiring from the event.

20th was Hill's Williams Martini Racing teammate the #19 Williams Martini Racing of Patrick Smith, who was also involved in the same crash, but pitted for repairs and lost a lap in the pits and was the only driver a lap behind the race leaders.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 19th the #33 Red Bull Racing of Gordon Schmidt and 18th was two-time last-place finisher the #94 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Jack Hallec.
