Formula E: Engine failure takes Sammy Sabre Jr. from first to last in final lap at Shanghai

Sammy Sabre Jr. picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Formula E Series Presented by Twitter career in the Season 2 Shanghai ePrix at the Shanghai International Circuit when his #10 Target completed all 8 laps under power.

The finish came in his 2nd career start. In the SCRL Formula E Series, it's the 1st for car #10 and the 4th from engine problems. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 16th for the #10 and the 44th from engine problems. Sabre Jr. had quickly proven himself to be one of the most fastest rising rookies in league history, winning two races and would win the SCRL CatDog Pro Series East Championship in his first series of competition and has ranked up 9 career wins in the span of two years. Sabre Jr. wasn't around when the first season of the Formula E Series was ran but was looking to continue to make a name for himself, and in his debut he would continue to impress, finishing 8th at Adelaide.

On race day, Sabre Jr. rolled off 1st while starting in the final spot was the #20 Fuzzy's Vodka of TJ Dent. Unlike at Adelaide, the pole sitter would take the green flag, and as soon as the green flag was waved, Dent quickly knocked the #19 Boy Scouts of America of Aaron John-Steel into the final spot in Turn 1, but Steel would rebound and passed Dent by Turn 5, with Dent being scored last after the first lap. Dent would remain in last until the middle of the second lap before Steel would take last on Lap 2. Steel would trail for two laps before he knocked the #25 Snapple of Mark Austin into the last spot, a position he would hold up until the final lap as the white flag was waved.

At this point, Sabe Jr. had a 1.4 second lead over Nick Speed going into Turn 4 when Sabre Jr.'s car began to smoke, pulling to the inside of the track as Nick Speed drove past and would go on to score his first career win, while Sabre Jr. limped back around to the start/finish line, completing the lap, with the cause of the smoke being a blown engine.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was; 19th was the aforementioned #25 of Mark Austin, 18th was the #20 of TJ Dent, 17th was the #19 of Aaron John-Steel and 16th was the #83 NovoLog FlexPen of Sylas Nixey.
