Throwback CUP: Kyle Mests gets first last place-finish in the cup series in caution free race at Langhorne

Kyle Mests picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Strictly Stock Series career at the Langhore Speedway when his #24 unsponsored Plymouth completed all 10 laps under power.

The finish came in his 4th start. Mests had proven himself in the SCRL as he had scored four career wins in several other series before signing up for the biggest series the league had to offer. Mests finished an impressive 3rd in the series first ever race at the Charlotte dirt track, finishing 17th in the series first ever road course event at Beach & Road Course before finishing a disappointing 37th at Hillsborough in the last round.

The entry list for the Langhorne race was a twenty one car field, the smallest in series history, as half of the drivers decided to race this event while the other half chose to race at the Hamburg Speedway that was being held the same day.

On race day, Mests would roll off starting in the 6th spot while the #28 Oldsmobile of Cam Nixey would roll off in the last spot. Due to the lack of cautions, the racing action was intense at both the front of the field and the rear as by the end of the 10th lap, Mests had found himself trailing the field, scoring his first last-place finish.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was drivers who finished on the same lap as the race leaders; 20th was the #2 unsponsored Ford of Dexter Black, 19th was the #7 Hudson of Evan Hunter, 18th was the #46 Chrysler of Rubens Wanderley and 17th was the #190 Oldsmobile of Luke Rainey.

Mests career at this point was on the decline as Mests never visited victory lane since before the series started, but the driver does still compete now and then in several SCRL Series.

On race day, Owens rolled off from the final spot when the green flag flew as drivers raced around the 19 turn 3.337 km(2.074 mile) street road course, and thanks to a tight race track and conditions, Owens struggled to and was unable to pass anyone despite two cautions flying during the event, easily giving Owen's his second last-place finish in the last four races.

The finish came in his 1st career start.

At this point in his career, Connor was still looking to make a name for himself in the SCRL, having competed in several series, but had yet to truly make a name for himself, or pick up that first career win. Connor was one of forty drivers to signup to compete in the 15 race schedule to see who would be the first ever champion.

On race day, Thunder was to rolled off starting in the final spot, but just after the command was given to start the engines, Thunder's car remained in the pit stall while the crew looked under the hood and inside the car to see what the problem was as the green flag waved. As Thunder's crew looked to see what the problem was, it didn't take long for chaos to break out as the #52 Fujitsu Ford of Kyle Mests's engine blew up while running in 39th and was forced to travel the entire length of the track back to pit road, but entering Turn 7, Mests was turned and spun out by the #20 Orrcon Ford of Anthony Lopez while going for the lead.

Nick Kennedy picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Cam 2 Race of Champions at the Pocono International Raceway when his #3 D & H Potato Farms Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 11 of 25 laps.

Ever since trailing the field at Thompson, Kennedy has continued to struggle to make a name for himself in the Whelen Series. A 20th in the last dirt race at New Egypt, 15th at the first Holland race, and a series best runner up in the second Holland race was the lone highlight of his season so far. On race day, Kennedy rolled off starting 9th while third New Egypt last-place finisher the #88 Buzz Chez Chevrolet / GT Vodka Chevrolet of Dexter Black, but his stay in the final spot lasted only two turns before he knocked the #8 Al's Mobile Home Chevrolet of Eli Bright into the final spot, a place Bright would hold till Lap 3 when the #38 P.A.S.E. Corporation Chevrolet of Jack Lagasee took the final spot as Lagasse struggled to keep up with the rest of the pack, and appeared he was on his way to picking up the 4th last-place finish of his career.

However, on Lap 11, chaos broke out in Turn 3 as first Waterford last-place finisher the #1 DMC Auto Exchange Chevrolet of Anthony Lopez was spun out by second New Egypt last-place finisher the #11 Marek Engineering Chevrolet of Evan Hunter as Lopez's car slid up the track and smacked the outside guard rail in Turn 3, spinning the car sideways. At the same time, Kennedy was riding along in 11th and had nowhere to go as he slammed hard into Evan's car, sending Kennedy's for a flip before landing on his roof. Both drivers were able to climb out of their cars uninjured, but their cars were both destroyed and their day was over.

Whelen: Danyal Gitirokh gets 4th last-place finish of the season at Thompson; takes SCRLASTCAR Championship lead with 6 races to go

Danyal Gitirokh picked up the 4th last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Winston 300 at the Thompson Speedway when his #57 M-M Stone Chevrolet completed all 30 laps under power.

The finish came in his 23rd career start, was his first on the circuit since January 7, the Miller 200 at the Riverhead Raceway where he was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 8 of 20 laps, 2 races ago. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 4th for car #57 and the 10th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #57 and the 143rd for running at the finish.

For Danyal Gitirokh he has struggled in the SCRL, having yet to score a win and in 21 starts he had already picked up three last place finishes. In his last race, he finished 14th at Stafford as for the fourth time of the season, the series returned to Thompson, a track where Gitirokh has a best finish of 7th in the last race at the track.

On race day, Gitirokh rolled off starting 4th while the #12 Sherry Cup Chevrolet of Oreius Centaur rolled off from the final spot, a position he wouldn't hold for long as Oreius knocked the #09 Riverhead Building Supply Chevrolet of Kyle Hunter to the final spot, but Hunter knocked Oreius back to last on Lap 2. Oreius however wasn't there long once again as he knocked third Stafford last-place finisher the #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet of Sammy Sabre Jr. to the final spot on Lap 3, before Sabre knocked Kyle back to last on Lap 4. On Lap 6, first Riverhead last-place finisher the #99 Gearhart Chevrolet of Joshua Rush took the final spot and held it till Lap 9 when Sabre Jr. returned to last briefly on Lap 9 before Kyle Hunter again took it on Lap 10.

Sabre would reclaim last two laps later on Lap 12 and kept it till Lap 15 when the #38 P.A.S.E. Corporation Chevrolet of Jack Lagasee took the final spot on Lap 15, before Lagasee knocked Sabre back to the final spot one lap later on Lap 16. Sabre then began to trail the field each lap, had he not gained a spot for the remaining 14 laps, he would have become only the second driver in series history to get back-to-back last-place finishes after Nick Kennedy did earlier in the season in the second Stafford event and the second Thompson race. Luckily for Sabre, he was able to knock Gitirokh into the final spot with seven laps to go and it was Gitirokh who made history.

On race day, Stancil rolled off starting 10th while starting last was the #44 M&M's Oldsmobile of Riley Houston Sr. Two cautions would slow the race for nine laps, the last of which coming with three laps to go, ending the race under caution. At that time, Stancil had already fallen two laps down and became the first ever driver to trail a ASA race.

Whelen: Early crash at Stafford gives Sammy Sabre Jr. his second last-place finish of his career

Sammy Sabre Jr. picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Pentax 200 at the Stafford Motor Speedway when his #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 3 of 20 laps.

The finish came in his 22nd career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #10 and the 9th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #10 and the 199th from a crash.

In a short amount of time, Sabre Jr. has quickly established himself as one of the fastest growing rookies in SCRL history, having raked up five career wins, his first coming in his debut of Season 1 of the SCRL CatDog Pro Series East, he would later score win #2 at Loudon on his way to becoming the inaugural champion. In his last series he competed in, Season 2 of the SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series, he picked three more wins, at South Boston, IRP and Richmond and finished 13th in the overall points.

Sabre Jr. wasn't around to compete in the first two Whelen races which were held back in 2014 so his debut for the series came when he made his debut when the series was brought back and many were worried he would be unable to fair well in the cars, but he quickly put any doubts down when he finished 3rd in his first ever start at Thompson, an 8th at the first Martinsville race, 14th at Stafford, 7th in the second Martinsville event and back-to-back 10th place in the first ever dirt event at New Egypt and at Waterford. A 12th in the second trip to New Egypt, before tying his series best of 3rd at Spencer, 19th at Riverhead, 5th at Twin State, 8th at Stafford, 12th at Thompson, 7th in the third and final dirt track at New Egypt.

In his 14th career start, Sabre Jr. started first at Holland and led every single lap for his 6th career win and first in the Whelen series. A return trip to Holland wouldn't be as great as the first race, a 14th. A 21st at Riverhead followed, 7th at Catamount, 15th at Star, 22nd at Thompson, 23rd at Waterford and a 12th in the last round at Riverhead.

On race day, Sabre Jr. rolled off starting 18th while the #8 Al's Mobile Home Chevrolet of Eli Bright started in the final spot and Bright was the first driver to trail a lap when chaos broke out in Turn 1. The #71 Draco / Purple Spring / Fluidyne Chevrolet of Daniel Bouchard drove hard into Turn 1, trying to pass third Thompson last-place finisher the #52 Dari-Farms Ice Cream Chevrolet of Patrick Smith as Bouchard and Smith's cars made contact, sending Smith into a spin and up the track right into the path of Sabre Jr. who had no where to go as he slammed hard into the back of Bouchard's car, damaging the radiator of his car as Sabre was able to make it across the start/finish line to be scored on Lap 3 before pulling into the garage, his day done.

Euro Elite 1: Late race Valve problem gives Han DeVice first career last-place finish at Hungaroring

Han DeVice picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 career in last Saturday's Round 9 at Hungaroring when his #83 Food Country USA Dodge fell out with valve problems after completing 5 of 12 laps.

The finish came in his 9th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1, it's the 1st for car #83 and the 1st for valve issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #83 and the 5th for valve issues.

DeVice was one of twenty four drivers to sign up to complete in the SCRL's newest series, and was still looking for his first career win. In his first start for the series, DeVice finished a disappointing 23rd at Monza, before quickly rebounding with a 3rd place finish at Brands Hatch and a 4th at Spa, before finishing 18th at Estoril, a 5th at Hockenheimring, 16th at Kyalami, 22nd at Red Bull and a 8th in the last race at Catalunya.

On race day, DeVice rolled off starting in the 9th spot while starting last was the #39 Sweeteners Plus Chevrolet of Matt Hamill. Hamill would trail the field for the first three turns before he knocked the #80 Monster Energy Ford of Tim Randolph into the final spot before the end of the first lap. Randolph struggled to keep up with the field through the race, falling behind some sixteen seconds behind the leader and nearly two behind the closest driver, and had nothing happened, Randolph would have scored his 5th all time last-place finish, with his most recent being on November 18, 2017 in the Season 1 SCRL CatDog Pro Series East Strutmasters.com 150 at the South Boston Speedway when he was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 6 of the 30 laps.

However thanks to the racing gods, Randolph's streak remained as on the 7th lap, DeVice began to slow in Turn 1 as the car began to smoke before he stalled completely in Turn 2, bringing out the lone caution of the day. DeVice's car was towed back to pit road, forcing the race to be extended two laps by way of the Green, White, Checkered rule and DeVice's car was retired from the race just shortly before the race was restarted.

Finishing 23rd was the #77 NAPA / Mohawk Dodge of Diego Yepez and 22nd was Brand Hatch last-place finisher the #29 Marlboro Chevrolet of Derrick Edison, both of whom was involved in a late crash shortly after the caution came out with both drivers limping around the remaining laps, the only other cautions not on the lead lap.

Danyal Gitirokh picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Miller 200 at the Riverhead Raceway when his #57 M-M Stone Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 8 of 20 laps.

The finish, which came in his 21st career start, was his first on the circuit since the December 17 Weld-Built 150 also held at Riverhead Raceway where he completed 21 of the 22 laps under power, 5 races ago. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 3rd for car #57 and the 8th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #57 and the 198th from a crash.

On race day, Gitirokh rolled off starting 23rd while the #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet of Sammy Sabre Jr. started in the final spot. Sabre would trail the field for the first two laps before Thompson last-place finisher the #59 Space Fitters / Ed Bennett Prop. Chevrolet of Zachary Fitzwater took the final spot on Lap 3 and trailed the next two laps before the #121 of Ryan Pritchard took the final spot on Lap 6, but his stay lasted one lap before he knocked second New Egypt last-place finisher the #11 Marek Engineering Chevrolet of Evan Hunter on Lap 7 when chaos broke out the very next lap. Whelen: Late race crash gives Eddie Wycombe third last-place finish of the season at Waterford; takes SCRLASTCAR Championship lead with 9 races to go

Eddie Wycombe picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Busch 100 at the Waterford Speedbowl when his #42 Patterson Farm / NAPA / Spafco Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 16 of 22 laps.

The finish, which came in his 20th career start, was his first on the circuit since the September 21 2018 Azalea 150 at the Martinsville Speedway where he fell out with engine problems after completing 38 of the 50 laps, 16 races ago. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 3rd for car #42 and the 7th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #42 and the 197th from a crash.

Ever since scoring his first win in the series return at Thompson, Wycombe's season has been lackluster and after scoring two early last place finishes at Martinsville, Wycombe's season continued: a 15th in the series first dirt track event at New Egypt, 4th at the first Waterford, 19th in the second trip at New Egypt, 10th at Spencer, 7th at Riverhead, 15th at Twin State, 3rd at Stafford, 6th at Thompson, 21st in the third New Egypt, 8th at Holland, 13th in the second Holland race, 15th at Riverhead, 23rd at Catamount, 12th at Star and 8th in the last round at Thompson.

The entry list bumped up to 25 for the first time since Twin State as league owner, Oreius Centaur, signed on to drive the #12 Sherry Cup Chevrolet for the final ten races as he completes in his final few series before fully retiring from league racing.

On race day, Wycombe rolled off starting 12th while the #8 Al's Mobile Home Chevrolet of Eli Bright rolled off last, but he would only be there for two turns as he knocked the #71 Draco / Purple Spring / Fluidyne Chevrolet of Daniel Bouchard to the final spot, which Bouchard would hold till Lap 3 when the #09 Riverhead Building Supply Chevrolet of Kyle Hunter fell back to last. Hunter would trail the field till Lap 9 when the first caution came out when the #4 Overland Driveshaft Chevrolet of AJ Jones spun out in Turn 4 and smacked the outside wall. Had Jones not been unable to complete, it would have been the 3rd last place finish of his career, the first since the October 21st, 2017 SCRL CatDog Pro Series West S1 Graham Tire 150 at the Iowa Speedway when he was taken out in a multi-car crash after completing 2 of 25 laps.

However, for Jones, his team was able to keep his car on the lead lap and rolling despite it having minor cosmetic, but Jones would trail the field, struggling to keep up and it appeared his first DNF in over a year would happen, but as faith would have it, his streak wouldn't end on this night. On Lap 17, three to go, chaos broke out on the frontstretch as Twin State last-place finisher the #48 A-Best Forklift Chevrolet of Bafode Sacko was spun out by the #121 Chevrolet of Ryan Pritchard, sending Sacko up the track right in front of Bouchard who had nowhere to go and seconds later, Wycombe had nowhere to go, as he also slammed hard into Bouchard's car, knocking both cars out of the race.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 23rd the #10 of Sammy Sabre Jr., 22nd was the #88 of Dexter Black and 21st was the #121 of Ryan Pritchard.
