Zina Al-Samarai picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in Round 10 at Circuit de Monaco when his #37 Knauf Ford was involved in a single car crash after completing 1 of the 12 laps
The finish came in his 10th career start, was his first on the circuit since December 24, 2018, in Round 8 at Catalunya after he suffered camshaft problems without completing any of the 8 laps, 2 races ago. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 3rd for car #37 and the 2nd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #37 and the 202nd for running at the finish.
Despite winning the very first race in series history at Monza, Al-Samarai's season has been a disappointment, scoring two last-place finishes and ranking low in points at the series entered round #10 at Circuit de Monaco, in Monte Carlo, Monaco for the very first time in series history.
On race day, Al-Samarai rolled off starting 6th while the #24 LeasePlan-Banden MD Chevrolet of Makaboo rolled off from the final spot, but he wouldn't stay there for too long as by Turn 5, Samarai had lost control and smacked the outside guardrail, causing damage to his car, bringing out not only the first caution of the day, but knocking Samarai out of the race.
Finishing in 16th was the #33 Mavi Jeans Chevrolet of Soran Taheri, who suffered tire problems on Lap 6, while the race was extended by way of the Green, White, Checkered rule, and remained two laps down the rest of the event, the only other driver to not finish on the same lap as the race leaders.
