Whelen: Engine failure prevents Nick Kennedy from completing at lap at Stafford; moves into 4th on the all time last-place finishing list

Nick Kennedy picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Axelrod Tire Modified Madness at the Stafford Motor Speedway when his #3 D & H Potato Farms Chevrolet fell out with engine problems without completing any of the 20 laps.

The finish came in his 11th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #3 and the 2nd for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #3 and the 33rd for engine issues.

Entering Season 1 of the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, Kennedy is one of the most successful drivers in league history, having scored 11 career wins, which ranks him 9th on the all time list, as well as having one championship to his credit, the Season 1 SCRL Formula One Series Championship. Kennedy's Whelen career didn't start of well, finishing 21st at Thompson, finishing 11th at Martinsville, 22nd at the first Stafford event, 12th in the second Martinsville race, 17th in the first New Egypt race, before in his 6th career start, Kennedy score his first Top 10, a 7th at Waterford. Finishes of 14th at the second New Egypt, 12th at Spencer, 20th at Riverhead and a finish of 24th in the last round at Twin State has made the season a depressing one for the former Formula One Champion.

On race day, Kennedy was scheduled to roll off starting in the 2nd spot while starting last was the #52 Dari-Farms Ice Cream of Patrick Smith, however just as the field began to roll off for the pace lap, Kennedy's car stalled on the frontstretch, preventing the high line from catching up to the leaders when the green came out. Kennedy's car was towed back to the garage and by Lap 3 it was determined the #3 has a engine failure, their day done without completing a single foot.

Just seconds after the #3 of Nick Kennedy would have problems, the #0 Stakey's Pumpkins / Jessup Chevrolet of Carter Friesen suffered valve problems and also stalled up on the start, his car towed back and was listed as "out" by Lap 4, but was listed as also not completing a lap, but was scored higher then Kennedy.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were drivers who finished a lap behind the race winner; 22nd was New Egypt last-place finisher the #11 Marek Engineering Chevrolet of Evan Hunter, 21st was Riverhead last-place finisher the #99 Gearhart Chevrolet of Joshua Rush and 20th was the #71 Draco / Purple Spring / Fluidyne Chevrolet of Daniel Bouchard.

SCRLASTCAR STATISTICS
*This is the first time the #3 has finished last in a Whelen race as well as at Stafford.
*This was the first time two cars failed to complete a lap since a "big one" struck in the opening seconds of the Season 2 Coca-Cola 200 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, causing five drivers to fail to complete a lap.
