Whelen: Engine failure prevents Marko Tellez from competing a lap at Catamount; becomes 4th driver in series history to fail to complete a lap

Marko Tellez picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in last Monday's SCRL Doubleheader at the Catamount Stadium when his #43 Supreme Mfg. Co. Chevrolet fell out with engine problems without completing any of the 20 laps.

The finish came in his 17th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #43 and the 3rd for engine issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 7th for the #43 and the 34th for engine issues.

Tellez was one of several rookies entered in the SCRL Whelen Series and was looking to make a name for himself. In his first ever start, he finished an impressive 8th at Thompson, a finish he would repeat at Stafford two races later, which would be his best finish of the season until a 7th in the second dirt event at New Egypt and in the second Holland event and in the last round at Riverhead, Tellez picked up yet another 8th place finish.

On race day, Tellez was scheduled to roll off in the 24th and final spot, but just after the command was given to start the engines, Tellez stalled on the track and was quickly towed to the infield garage. His team looked under the hood and found that the engine was done, preventing them from competing a lap and giving Tellez his worst finish of his career.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 23rd was two time last-place finisher the #42 Patterson Farm / NAPA / Spafco Chevrolet of Eddie Wycombe, 22nd was the #38 P.A.S.E. Corporation Chevrolet of Jack Lagasee, 21st was the #71 Draco / Purple Spring / Fluidyne Chevrolet of Daniel Bouchard and finishing 20th was the #52 Dari-Farms Ice Cream of Patrick Smith.
