Whelen: Dexter Black gets second career last-place finish of career in caution free race at New Egypt

Dexter Black picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Cam 2 Racing Fuels 150 at the New Egypt Speedway when his #88 Buzz Chez Chevrolet / GT Vodka Chevrolet completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 13th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #88 and the 5th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 12th for the #88 and the 131st for running at the finish.

Black entered the rebranded Whelen Series as a driver who had yet to make a name for himself in the SCRL, but had raked up two career wins, with his first coming in the SCRL Formula One Series at Silverstone and his most recent in the SCRL CatDog Pro Series West at Willow Springs. Black made his Whelen debut by finishing a runner up to Eddie Wycombe at Thompson, 23rd in the first Martinsville race, 18th in the first Stafford event, 21st in the second event at Martinsville, 16th in the first New Egypt race, 19th at Waterford before scoring his second, third and fourth and career Top 10's by finishing 6th in the return trip at New Egypt, a 7th at Spencer and a 8th at Riverhead.

In the second Stafford race, Black finished 12th and in the last round at Thompson, he picked up his fifth Top 10 of the season by finishing 8th at Thompson.

On race day, Black rolled off starting in the 12th spot while starting last was first New Egypt last-place finisher the #57 M-M Stone Chevrolet of Danyal Gitirokh, a spot he would hold only two turns before the #38 P.A.S.E. Corporation Chevrolet of Jack Lagasee fell back to the final spot and trailed the first lap before Lagasee passed Gitirokh again, who would trail till Lap 4 when two time last-place finisher the #42 Patterson Farm / NAPA / Spafco Chevrolet of Eddie Wycombe took the final spot and if he was unable to pass anyone, he would have become the first driver to finish last three times in Whelen Series history.

Wycombe however only trailed the field for three laps before he knocked the #8 Al's Mobile Home Chevrolet of Eli Bright into the final spot on Lap 7 and 8 before Black entered the battle on Lap 9. No matter what Black tried, he was unable to gain any spots over the final eleven laps, and the second ever last-place finish in his career was his.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 23rd was Twin State last-place finisher the #48 A-Best Forklift Chevrolet of Bafode Sacko, 22nd was the #8 of Eli Bright, 21st the #42 of Eddie Wycombe and 20th was two-time last-place finisher the #3 D & H Potato Farms Chevrolet of Nick Kennedy.
