Euro Elite 2: Broken Camshaft gives Zain Al-Samarai seconds last-place finish of the season at Catalunya; becomes second driver to not complete a lap

Zain Al-Samarai picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in the Round 8 at the Circuit de Catalunya when his #37 Knauf Ford fell out with camshaft problems without completing any of the 8 laps.

The finish came in his 8th career start, was his first on the circuit since October 22 in Round 5 at Hockenheimring after he suffered suspension problems after completing 7 of 9 laps, 3 races ago. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 2nd for car #37 and the 1st for camshaft issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #37 and the 29th for camshaft issues.

Al-Samarai became the first driver ever to score a win in series history by winning the inaugural race at Monza and after getting his first last place finish at Hockenheimring, Samarai finished 7th at Sebring and 13th in the last round at Yas Marina.

On race day, Samarai was scheduled to roll off starting 11th while starting last was the #5 Orion Ford of Dale Jones, but as soon as the car began their lone pace lap, Samari's car began to smoke as he quickly pulled onto pit road and into the garage, the team found that the camshaft was broken and wouldn't be repairable in the time limit of the race, and the car was retired shortly after the first lap had been completed.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders; 15th was the #24 LeasePlan-Banden MD Chevrolet of Makaboo, 14th was the #33 Mavi Jeans Chevrolet of Soran Taheri, 13th was current SCRLASTCAR championship leader the #73 Knauf Ford of Chakat Silverpaw and finishing 12th was Yas Marina last-place finisher the #54 Maabadot Chevrolet of Draco Drakul.
