Euro Elite 2: Late race pileup at Yas Marina gives Draco Drakul third last-place finish his career

Draco Drakul picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in the Round 7 at the Yas Marina Circuit when his #54 Maabadot Chevrolet completed all 9 laps under power.

The finish came in his 7th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 1st for car #54 and the 4th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #54 and the 133rd for running at the finish.

Draco is one of a few elite drivers to have tasted success in the SCRL, having picked up three career wins, as well as becoming a champion, that in Season 3 of the SCRL IROC Series, but he hadn't competed in several years. Draco made his in return to the league in the last round at Sebring, finishing 10th.

The entry list for grew for the second race in a row, from 15 cars to 16 as two-time SCRL Lucas Oil ARCA Racing Series race winner, at Pocono and Kansas, Connor Thunder signed up to drive in the final six races, driving the #78 Braxx Racing Ford.

On race day, Draco would roll off 7th while starting last was the #90 Braxx Performance of Mani Salado, a spot Mani would hold till lap 3 when the #24 LeasePlan-Banden MD Chevrolet of Makaboo was forced to make a pit stop to repair damage after running into the back of another car. Had Makaboo stayed where he was, it would have been the 5th last-place finish of his career. But on Lap 6, Draco ran into the back of Monza last-place finisher the #1 Leonessa Group Ford of Jason Larker. Draco would be forced to pit just like Makaboo did, as Makaboo passed him while on pit road. Draco would get back out on the track, but was never able to recover, finishing a full minute behind the race leaders.

The remaining Bottom Five also finished on the lead lap; 15th was the #24 of Makaboo, 14th was the #90 of Mani Salado, 13th was Hockenheimring last-place finisher the #37 Knauf Ford of Zina Al-Samarai and finishing 12th was the #33 Mavi Jeans Chevrolet of Soran Taheri.
