The finish, which came in his 18th career start, was his first on the circuit since the December 4 Genesee Twin 50s - Race 1 at the Holland International Speedway where he completed all 20 laps under power, 4 races ago. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 2nd for car #34 and the 8th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #34 and the 140th for running at the finish.
After picking up his second ever last-place finish at Holland, Al has continued to struggle to make a name for himself in the Whelen Series, finishing 20th in the second Holland race, 19th at Riverhead but in the last round he finished a series best 2nd at Catamount and was looking to finish one spot higher in the inaugural race at the Star Speedway.
On race day, Lagasee rolled off starting 21st while Riverhead last-place finisher the #99 Gearhart Chevrolet of Joshua Rush who would trail the field for the first three laps before he passed the #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet of Sammy Sabre Jr. who trailed for Lap 4 before he knocked the #4 Overland Driveshaft Chevrolet of AJ Jones into the final spot on Lap 5. Jones would stay in last for two laps before he knocked Twin State last-place finisher the #48 A-Best Forklift Chevrolet of Bafode Sacko into the final spot on Lap 7.
Sacko would remain in last for three laps when the #52 Dari-Farms Ice Cream of Patrick Smith entered the battle on Lap 11 as he trailed for five laps before he passed AJ Jones on Lap 16. Jones would be behind Smith for five laps as well when he passes Smith on Lap 22. Smith began to struggle as the back half of the pack had been lapped and with seventeen laps to go, Smith worked underneath Al Lagasee, and as much as Al tried, he was unable to gain a spot for the final laps.
The remaining Bottom Five all finished one lap behind the race leaders: 23rd was current SCRLASTCAR leader and two time last-place finisher the #3 D & H Potato Farms Chevrolet of Nick Kennedy, 22nd was the #48 of Bafode Sacko, 21st was the #4 of AJ Jones and 20th was the #52 of Patrick Smith.
