Scott Stancil picked up the 1st last place finish of his ONL ASA Series career in the All-American 250 at the Ace Speedway when his #75 NAPA Firebird completed 23 of the 25 laps under power.
The finish came in his 1st career start.
Scott Stancil was one of seventeen drivers to sign up for the then ONL's newest series, the ONL ASA Series. Stancil had never competed in a ONL race before the ASA Series but was looking to prove he deserved to be there.
On race day, Stancil rolled off starting 10th while starting last was the #44 M&M's Oldsmobile of Riley Houston Sr. Two cautions would slow the race for nine laps, the last of which coming with three laps to go, ending the race under caution. At that time, Stancil had already fallen two laps down and became the first ever driver to trail a ASA race.
Finishing 16th was the #39 Welch's Oldsmobile of Jus Nimh, scored on the same lap as Stancil, having broken a header with two laps to go.
The remaining Bottom Five finished one lap down to the race leaders: 15th was the #14 unsponsored Ford of Evan McCollum, 14th was the #23 Expert Optional Oldsmobile of Rick Rome and 13th was the #81 Spam / Hormel Chevrolet of Chakat Silverpaw.
After leading 6 laps at Atlanta and finishing 17th, Stancil went to Baer Field looking to make a statement, starting first and leading all 30 laps to score his first career win. No one knew it at the time, but that would be his lone trip to victory lane. The ASA Series would be the only series he ever competed in, with his last race coming in the season finale at Homestead, finishing 23rd in the race, and 19th in the overall points. He hasn't competed in a race since.
