Whelen: Riley Spurlytube's Lap 3 crash at Holland moves him up to 5th on the all time list

Riley Spurlytube picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Genesee Twin 50s - Race 2 at the Holland International Speedway when his #28 Fuel Carrier Corp. Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after completing 3 of 20 laps.

The finish came in his 15th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #28 and the 6th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 8th for the #28 and the 196th from a crash.

Entering Season 1 of the Whelen Series, Spurlytube is one of a few drivers to have found success in the SCRL, having scored 11 career wins which ranks him 9th on the all time list, but Spurlytube has also struggled in his career, picking up 7 career last-place finishes which ranked him 6th, just seven last-place finishes behind all-time leader Chakat Whitelion. Spurlytube started his Whelen career by finishing 5th at Thompson, a 9th at Martinsville, a 16th at Stafford, 20th in the second Martinsville race and a 22nd in the first ever dirt race at New Egypt.

Two poor finishes at Waterford and New Egypt followed before Spurlytube finished 4th at Spencer and a 10th at Riverhead followed. A 20th at Twin State, 6th at Stafford, 5th in the return trip at Thompson, 9th in the third and final race at New Egypt before scoring the best finish of his Whelen career, a runner up to Sammy Sabre Jr. in the last round at Holland.

On race day, Spurlytube rolled off starting 17th while starting last was the first Holland race winner the #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet of Sammy Sabre Jr. Sabre was last for the first lap before he knocked two-time last-place finisher the #42 Patterson Farm / NAPA / Spafco Chevrolet of Eddie Wycombe to the final spot on Lap 2 and Wycombe was trailing the field when the battle for last ended in Turn 3. Spurlytube was running in 17th at the time when Thompson last-place finisher the #59 Space Fitters / Ed Bennett Prop. Chevrolet of Zachary Fitzwater was spun out on the backstretch, his car sliding down the track before coming back up right in front of Spurlytube, sending his car into the outside wall, nearly flipping over before landing back on all four wheels. Spurlytube was able to limp back around to the garage, his day done.

Finishing 23rd was the #59 of Zachary Fitzwater and 22nd was the #09 Riverhead Building Supply Chevrolet of Kyle Hunter, both cars taken out in the same crash.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders: 21st was the #10 Bilsom Safety Chevrolet of Sammy Sabre Jr. and 20th was first Holland last-place finisher the #34 American Powder Coating / Warner Chevrolet of Al Lagasee.
