LEGENDS: LASTCAR owner Brock Beard picks up the first last-place finish of his own racing career after suffering damage early at Michigan

Brock Beard picked up the 1st place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Michigan 400 at the Michigan International Speedway when his #70 unsponsored Ford completed all 19 laps under power.

The finish came in his 18th start. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 1st for car #70 and the 43rd where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #70 and the 197th where the car was still running.

Ever since 2009, Brock has been the creator and writer for the long standing LASTCAR blog, which the mission of LASTCAR.info is to fill in these missing pieces one week at a time, especially regarding the least-covered racers in motorsports - the last-place finishers. LASTCAR.info has covered the untold "race" for the most last-place finishes in NASCAR history - and, in doing so, continues to chronicle the trials and triumphs of those who race for something more meaningful than victory: survival.

However, Brock himself had never competed before in the sim racing world until the offer came up to drive the very same car that J.D. McDuffie had driven back in 1970, and so the same man that for years detailing who finished last, was now given the chance to complete against the very best the SCRL had to offer and make a name for himself as well as a driver. Brock's debut came at the twisting 2.500 mile road course at Riverside and impressed early on, finishing 5th at a track that McDuffie had a best finish of 6th in 1975. A disappointing 29th at Ontario would follow before Brock would finish 7th in his first short track race at Richmond before finishing 15th at Rockingham.

Brock would continue to struggle with finishes of 24th at Atlanta, 40th at Bristol, 17th at Talladega and a 35th at North Wilkesboro before the series visited the track known as "The Lady in Black" where Brock started 5th and would dominate the day, leading 24 of the 29 laps before losing the lead with two laps to go and finished runner up to points leader Christian Russell. Brock's finish at Darlington would be the only highlight over the next seven races as he finished 41st in the fall Charlotte event, 28th at Martinsville's fall event, 31st at the spring Michigan race, 35th in the return trip to Riverside, 28th at Greenville-Pickens, 28th at Thompson and a 35th in the fall Bristol event before scoring a second 5th finish in the last round at Atlanta.

The entry list for the second round at Michigan was bumped back up to the original 42 cars as Atlanta hometown boy the #43 Plymouth By Petty Plymouth of Oreius Centaur returned to the series after choosing to skip the short track at Bristol. Completing in his final event at his hometown track, Oreius had never won at the track and was looking to end his final season on a high note.

On race day, Brock rolled off starting in 26th while starting last was the #3 Moss-Thornton Dodge of Cam Nixey. Nixey would remain in the final spot for the first two turns as Spring Bristol last-place finisher the #09 unsponsored Chevrolet of Paul Hogan fell into the final spot and was last after the completion of the first lap when the battle for last quickly ended. Brock was stuck in the middle of a four wide battle with the #12 Coca-Cola Dodge of Samet Ozkan, the #4 Mills Plumbing Dodge of Mitchell Collins and the #19 unsponsored Ford of Christian Russell when contact between Brock and Collins sent Brock up the track into Russell, causing Brock and Collins to slide up the track and into the outside wall, sending Brock for a spin. Brock's car would spin out in front of Charlotte last-place finisher the #10 unsponsored Ford of Sammy Sabre Jr. as Sabre Jr. would receive damage to his front end as both Brock and Sabre would go to pit road to repair the damage as best their team could but both would fall almost a full lap down due to their damage but were able to limp home.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 40th was the #04 unsponsored Dodge of Chakat Whitelion, 39th was fall Bristol last-place finisher the #68 Auto Specialists / Auto Lad Ford of Trevor Collins and 38th was the North Wilkesboro's last-place finisher the #31 unsponsored Dodge of Carter Frisen.
