Cole Nixey picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Capital City 500 at the Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway when his #27 unsponsored Ford fell out with valve problems after completing 8 of the 50 laps.
The finish, which came in his 49th start, was his first on the circuit since the Bowman Gray 250 at the Bowman Gray Stadium when he completed all 25 laps under power, 2 races ago. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 4th for car #27 and the 2nd for valve issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #27 and the 6th for valve issues.
After trailing the field at Bowman-Gray, Nixey would go to the next event at Darlington where he would be involved in the race ending caution on Lap 31, and would finish 35th. As the field entered the 22nd race of the season, Nixey has a best finish of 23rd in the spring event this season.
On race day, Nixey rolled off starting 31st while starting off in the final spot was the #29 unsponsored Chevrolet of Marko Tellez, a position he would hold for one lap but the next time around points leader the #19 unsponsored Ford of Christian Russell had fallen back to last. Russell would be last for only one lap as well as the #71 K & K Insurance Dodge of Sylas Nixey would go to the pits to repair some minor damage. Nixey would stay in last for two laps, knocking the #99 Dow Chemicals Dodge of Joshua Rush into the final spot shortly after the race went back to racing. Just one lap later, Cole would slow off Turn 3 and pulled onto the apron and onto pit road and to his stall as the crew looked under the hood, finding that the valve was broken, and the car was pushed behind the wall, listed as "out" by the 10th circuit.
Finishing 41st was the aforementioned #99 of Joshua Rush, who would be caught up in two of the three cautions and would fall three laps down to the race leaders.
Rounding of the Bottom Five were drivers who would all finish a lap behind the race leaders; 40th was the #45 unsponsored Ford of Riley Spurlytube, 39th was spring Michigan last-place finisher the #97 Long-Lewis Ford of Ryan Rush and 38th was the aforementioned #71 of Sylas Nixey.
