Nathan Ormond picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway when his #72 DeWitt Enterprises Mercury fell out with header problems after completing 9 of the 36 laps.

The finish, which came in his 21st start, was his first on the circuit since the Riverside 500 at the Riverside International Raceway when fell out with camshaft problems after completing 12 of the 19 laps, 20 races ago. Ormond would struggle in the next race, finishing 39th at Martinsville. Finishes of 10th at Michigan and a 5th at Riverside would boost the team's spirits but a 23rd at Greenville would be a disappointment. A 11th at Thompson, 4th in the fall Bristol event would be followed with a 21st at the fall Atlanta event, 18th at the fall Michigan, 13th at Talladega before finishing 4th at Bowman-Gray in the last round.

On race day, Ormond rolled off starting 17th while starting off in the final spot for the second time in three races was Ontario last-place finisher the #8 unsponsored Ford of Zachary Fitzwater, but his stay in the final spot lasted only one turn as he knocked spring Martinsville last-place finisher the #75 Kentucky Fried Chicken Special Plymouth of Dilan Ebrahimian into the final spot. Ebrahimian would touch with the field, falling behind the closest driver by nearly a second by the fifth lap, and two seconds around Lap 7. During this time, Ormond had fallen back to 25th when going down the backstretch, Ormond's car started smoking and pulled to the apron of the track, limping back to the garage with a broken header. At the same time, leader the #7 unsponsored Plymouth of Simon Fox pulled to the inside of the track and began to slow, suffering a broken piston as he would be scored 41st.
