LEGENDS: Early Big One at Talladega gives Carter Joey the 4th last-place finish of his career

Carter Joey picked up the 1st place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Talladega 500 at the Alabama International Motor Speedway when his #59 Pepsi Ford was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of the 18 laps.

The finish came in his 19th start. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 1st for car #59 and the 24th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #59 and the 222nd from a crash.

Joey has slowly worked his way up from a rookie to a veteran that has competed in several series looking to make a name for himself in the SCRL, struggling to find it to victory lane until the 10th race of Season 1 of the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at the Caraway Speedway for his first, and so far, only career SCRL sanctioned win.

Joey made his NASCAR Legends Series debut by finishing 20th at Riverside before struggling the next two races with finished of 35th at Ontario and a 24th atRichmond. Joey would rebound in the next two races, finishing 5th at Rockingham and a 6th at Atlanta. Over the next eleven races Joey would score no Top 5s or Top 10s, finishing only a 12th at Greenville-Pickens before scoring his second 5th place finish of the season at the fall Bristol event. In the next round at Atlanta, Joey scored a runner up finish to Christian Russell before finishing 20th in the last round at Michigan.

On race day, Joey rolled off starting in 36th while starting last was Ontario last-place finisher the #8 unsponsored Ford of Zachary Fitzwater a spot Fitzwater would hold for the first three turns when he knocked the #64 Woodfield Ford of Josh Nixey into the final spot as Nixey would trail till the backstretch by the next lap he had knocked the #16 unsponsored Chevrolet of Dale Jones into the final spot, a position that Jones would hold until the battle for last would end on that same backstretch one lap later.

While racing for 8th, spring Talladega race winner the #18 unsponsored Plymouth Cassie Dent made contact with the #19 unsponsored Ford of Christian Russell sending both cars up the track and blocking the track as a twenty car crash would break out on the backstretch. Joey would have nowhere to go and slammed into fall Michigan race winner the #21 60 Minute Cleaners Mercury Cyclone of Bryan McKayson, caving in the front end of Joey's car and sending him for a spin and coming to a stop on the backstretch. Joey's car wouldn't make it back to the garage and neither would Richmond last-place finisher the #98 Jim Robbins Co. Ford of Chris Kyle or McKayson's #21, while limping back to the garage was fall Riverside last-place finisher the #32 Bestline Products Plymouth of Derrick Edison would all be scored having completed only two laps.

Rounding of the Bottom Five in 38th was the #06 Warren Fox Dodge of Ty Dent, who fell out with a broken gearbox while riding around under caution on the 4th Lap.
