It would be five more races before he would pick up another Top 5, a 5th at Talladega, before struggling once again for three more races, scoring the second runner up finish of the season to Nathan Ormond at Charlotte.A finish of 7th at Martinsville would be the best finish he could string together and finished 22nd in the last round at Bristol.

Much like at Bristol, the battle for last was as intense as it was up front as Rush passed the #21 60 Minute Cleaners Mercury Cyclone of Bryan McKayson. McKayson wouldn't remain in last for long, as he knocked Thompson last-place finisher the #00 Thomas Brothers Country Ham Chevrolet of Jimmy Sampson into the final spot on Lap 3 and would be trailing the field when the battle for last quickly ended.

While battling for 22nd, the #06 Warren Fox Dodge of Ty Dent was running three wide with the #11 Don Wagner Ford Sales Ford of Muhammad Zain Abdullah and fall Bristol last-place finisher the #68 Auto Specialists / Auto Lad Ford of Trevor Collins when contact between Dent and Abdullah sent him into Collins, forcing the two cars up the track and head on into the guard rail in Turn 4. Due to the banking of the track, Abdullah's car went back down the track right in front of Lagasee's path, with Lagasee's front end and right side completely smashed in, as Lagasee limped around the track and pulled into the garage, his car being listed as "out" by the 5th lap.

41st was the aforementioned the #11 of Muhammah Zain Abdullah, 40th was the #68 of Trevor Collins and 39th was the #00 of Jimmy Sampson all who finished two laps down.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 38th was the #7 unsponsored Plymouth of Simon Fox, who was also involved in the same crash, but limped home to finishing only one lap behind the race leaders.
