Carter Joey picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Wilkes 400 at the North Wilkesboro Speedway when his #59 Pepsi Ford was involved in a multi-car crash after 32 of the 40 laps.
The finish, which came in his 23rd start, was his first on the circuit since the Talladega 500 at the Alabama International Motor Speedway when his #59 Pepsi Ford was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of the 18 laps, 4 races ago. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 2nd for car #59 and the 25th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #59 and the 223rd from a crash.
After trailing the field at Talladega, Joey would bounce back by finished 3rd at Bowman-Gray, 17th at Darlington and in the last round at Richmond, Joey led 40 of the 50 laps only to finish second to Jimmy Sampson. In his previous race at North Wilkesboro in the spring, Joey had finished 26th.
On race day, Joey rolled off starting 38th while starting off in the final spot was spring Michigan last-place finisher the #97 Long-Lewis Ford of Ryan Rush, a spot that Rush would hold for only two turns as he knocked the #06 Warren Fox Dodge of Ty Dent into the final spot on Lap 1, but the next turn Charlotte last-place finisher the #10 unsponsored Ford of Sammy Sabre Jr. began to slow and pulled into pit road, reporting of a flat right front tire. Sabre's team was able to get all four tires changed and sent their driver back out on track, having fallen back to last and had lost a lap to the race leaders.
Sabre Jr. would remain in the final spot for much of the race due to no drivers fallen out, but on Lap 34 the #22 Coca-Cola Dodge of Sebastian Torres made contact with Rush, sending his car up the track right in front of Joey, with Joey hitting Rush right in the driver's door and damaging the radiator and causing Joey to limp back around to the garage, done for the day.
Finishing 41st was points leader the #19 unsponsored Ford of Christian Russell, who suffered a broken valve just seconds after the race went back racing, stalling in Turn 4 and forcing the race to be ended under the yellow flag. Finishing 40th and 39th was the #10 of Sammy Sabre Jr. and the #97 of Ryan Rush, the only other drivers who didn't finish on the lead lap.
Rounding of the Bottom Five in 38th was the #5 unsponsored Dodge of Logan Bueckert, the last car on the lead lap.
