LEGENDS: Race long battle for last place ends after early wreck at Bristol gives Trevor Collins the second last-place finish of his career

Trevor Collins picked up the 1st place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 Volunteer 500 at the Bristol International Speedway when his #68 Auto Specialists / Auto Lad Ford involved in a multi-car crash after 12 of the 50 laps.

The finish came in his 16th start. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 1st for car #68 and the 22nd from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #68 and the 220th from a crash.

Entering Season 4 of the Legends Series, Collins had already proven himself to be a proven winner, having scored two career wins in the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series and finished 7th in points. Collins would finish 30th in his debut at the twisting road course at Riverside and would struggle for the next seven races with only a best finish of 31st at Ontario before finishing a series best 4th at North Wilkesboro. Collins would continue his streak by scoring a 9th at Darlington, a 10th at Charlotte, a 15th at Martinsville before scoring back-to-back 16th place finishes at Michigan and Riverside. In the next round at Greenville-Pickens, Collins would score his third career SCRL sanctioned win and in the last round at Thompson, he finished 26th.

As the field entered the 16th race of the season, the entry list was one car short as Ontario race winner the #43 Plymouth By Petty Plymouth of Oreius Centaur decided to not compete at the half mile at Bristol, much like the team had decided to do earlier in the season, and would focus their attention to Oreius's home track at Atlanta in the next round.

On race day, Collins rolled off starting in 31st while starting last was Charlotte last-place finisher the #10 unsponsored Ford of Sammy Sabre Jr. a spot that Sabre would hold for only one turn as he knocked the #18 unsponsored Plymouth Cassie Dent into the final spot and would trail for the first lap. Dent's stay would only last one lap before she passed the #34 unsponsored Ford of Al Lagasee for the final spot. Lagasse would also stay in last for only one lap as he knocked Martinsville last-place finisher the #75 Kentucky Fried Chicken Special Plymouth of Dilan Ebrahimian into the final spot, but one lap later Ebrahimian would knock the #64 Woodfield Ford of Josh Nixey into the final spot.

The constant battle for last would appear to be happening every lap as Nixey would knock the #36 Coca-Cola Dodge of Eddie Wycombe into the final spot on Lap 5. Wycombe would get a run down the backstretch and knocked the #06 Warren Fox Dodge of Ty Dent into last on Lap 6, Dent would then pass the #17 Purolator Ford of AJ Jones for the final spot. Jones would remain in last for one lap as well, knocking the #22 unsponsored Dodge of Sebastian Torres into the final spot on Lap 8. The next lap, Torres would pass the #70 unsponsored Ford of Brock Beard into the final spot, a position that Beard would hold for two laps until the battle for last quickly ended on Lap 12.

While running in 33rd spot, Collins was running the high side trying to pass Al Lagasse, when he misjudged the turn and slammed hard into the guardrail at just the wrong angle where it joined into a concrete wall, sending Collins into the air, landing on top of the #71 K & K Insurance Dodge of Sylas Nixey and the #17 of AJ Jones, completely destroying those two cars, before landing back on the track in front of Torres, who also slammed into Collins's upside down car. Torres, Jones and Nixey would all limp back to the garage done for the day, while Collins had to climb from his car and walked to the infield care center, he was alright, but due to his car being left on the track, he was given the final spot.

Rounding out the Bottom Five in 37th was the #16 unsponsored Chevrolet of Dale Jones, who suffered camshaft issues just before the race went back to racing, pulling into the garage after completing 15 laps.
