LEGENDS: Early single car spin at Rockingham gives Simon Fox the 3rd last-place finish of his career; SCRLASTCAR championship battle set for Texas World

Simon Fox picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL NASCAR Legends Series career in the Season 4 American 500 at the North Carolina Motor Speedway when his #7 unsponsored Plymouth was involved in a single-car accident after 9 of 49 laps.

The finish came in his 26th start. In the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, it's the 1st for car #7 and the 26th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 11th for the #7 and the 224th from a crash.

Simon had never competed a single lap in the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series, but had found success in the SCRL, having scored 6 career wins in multiple series including the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series and the SCRL CatDog Pro Series East. Fox's Legends Series debut resulted in a 14th at the first Riverside event and it would be his best finish until the sixth race of the season where he finished 5th at Bristol. Fox would improve on his series best by finishing 3rd in the second event at Riverside and over the next was a 9th in the fall Bristol event and Fox would finish 19th in the last round at Martinsville. As the series returned to Rockingham for the second time of the season, Fox had finished 21st earlier in the season.

On race day, Fox rolled off starting 14th while starting off in the final spot was #29 unsponsored Chevrolet of Marko Tellez, a spot that Tellez would hold for the first lap while running down the backstretch, spring Atlanta last-place finisher the #25 unsponsored Plymouth of TJ Dent slowed down the backstretch and pulled onto the backstretch reporting of a flat tire and his crew quickly gave him new fresh tires. Dent would continue to trail the field up till Lap 13 as Fox would made contact with the #5 unsponsored Dodge of Logan Bueckert, sending both cars up the track and hitting the outside guard rail with enough force that it damaged Fox's car to the point he had to limp back around to the garage, pulling in and after a quick look at the car, it was retired by the 10th lap.

Around the same time Ozkan's car was retired from the race, the first caution came out as the #29 unsponsored Chevrolet of Marko Tellez was spun out by the #36 Coca-Cola Dodge of Eddie Wycombe as Greenville-Pickens last-place finisher the #13 unsponsored Chevrolet of Leroy Jones and #28 Piper Trash Can Liners Dodge of Jack Lagasee would both receive damage during a pileup that broke out in Turn 1 after the field had taken the caution, as both drivers would be scored 41st and 40th, having both completed 4 laps.

Rounding of the Bottom Five would be drivers who would all be taken out in multi-car crashes; 41st was the #3 Moss-Thornton Dodge of Cam Nixey, taken out on a Lap 18 crash, 40th and 39th was the #99 Dow Chemicals Dodge of Joshua Rush and the #29 of Marko Tellz, who both received damaged during the same wreck, but both were able to limp around to complete one more lap before pulling in and 38th was the #04 unsponsored Dodge of Chakat Whitelion, taken our hirself in a "big one" that struck just six laps later.

Entering the final round at Texas World, Cole Nixey has a lead of one last-place finish over Nathan Ormond, Derrick Edison and Carter Joey, if Cole, Ormond or Edison finishes last, they would win the championship outright. Despite having two last-place finishes, if Joey finishes last he would merely tie Coley with three but wouldn't win the tie breaker, so the final race will have a three driver battle in the finale between Cole, Ormond and Edison.

As the field took the green, Ozkan's team looked under the hood and found that the engine had expired and the car was retired from the event by Lap 5.

It would take another forty laps before another spot in the Bottom Five would be filled, that being the #40 7-Up Plymouth of Brian Fox, who would finish six laps down, having gotten damage during the same pileup and struggled to keep up with the rest of the field.
