East: Kevin McHugh's early engine failure just a few laps before huge crash at Charlotte

Kevin McHugh picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CatDog Pro Series East career in Monday's All-Pro Auto Parts 300 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway when his #32 Van Dyk Baler / Bollegraaf Chevrolet fell out with engine problems after 7 of 40 laps.

The finish, which came in McHugh's 17th series start. Coming into the East Series, McHugh had score only one career win when he survived a wreckfest at Watkins Glen to win in the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series. McHugh finished an uneventful 26th in his series debut at Daytona and four rounds later, McHugh would once again survive another wreckfest at a road course as he finished 2nd at Road Atlanta, but since then a lackluster season placed McHugh 35th in points.

On race day, McHugh would roll off the grid 11th while starting last on the field was Watkins Glen last-place finisher the the #10 Widow Wax / SealWrap Heavy Duty Toyota. Jefferson would trail the field through the first lap before points leader the #98 Curb Records / Celebrity Fight Night Chevrolet of Chris Kyle would trail for the second lap before DuQuoin last-place finisher the #7 Woods Towing & Transportation Toyota of Evan Hunter would trail for the 3rd lap, Nazareth last-place finisher the #07 Sims Metal Management Ford of Nick Kennedy for the 4th lap before the first caution would come out and the #8 Sign Innovations Toyota driven by Kyle Hunter would be damaged and would trail the field starting on the fifth lap as the field ran under caution a car began smoking.

While running in the Top 10, McHugh's car began to smoke as he quickly turns his car down off the track to prevent oil from being on the track as he would drive to the garage, locking up his first career last place finish in the East Series.

Rounding out the bottom five were drivers who were involved in a multi-car wreck that broke out just four laps later; 35th went to Bristol last place finisher the #20 Rockstar / Royal Purple Toyota of Gustavo Arocha, 34th went to the #4 Toyota Racing Development Toyota of Brian Fox, 33rd went to the #73 Celtic Waste Dodge of James Stabilito and 32nd went to the #49 Eneos Motor Oil Toyota of Al Lagasse, who was able to limp across the start/finish line to complete one more lap.
