East: Jay Jefferson becomes first pole sitter to finish last in East Series history after first lap crash at Watkins Glen

Jay Jefferson picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL CatDog Pro Series East career in Friday's Bully Hill Vineyards 125 at the Watkins Glen International when his #10 Widow Wax / SealWrap Heavy Duty Toyota was involved in a single-car crash after 1 of 15 laps.

The finish came in Jefferson's 14th career series start. Coming into the East Series, Jefferson was part of the Jefferson Brothers team alongside his brother Joe, they had both made their make in the SCRL with Joe scoring six wins while Jay suffered more trouble along his way to two wins. Jay made his debut in the East Series at Daytona earlier in the season and would come home 17th, one spot behind Joe who finished 16th. A wreck at Bristol and a finish of 30th at South Boston knocked Jay down further in points as the series made their first stop at Nazareth. Starting fifth, Jay would go on to lead 11 of the event's 22 laps to score his first East Series win, two more Top 5's and five more Top 10's put Jay 4th in points as the series returned to the road courses.

On race day, Jefferson would roll off the grid 1st by way of a random draw while starting last on the field was the #22 Oakley / Bruster's Ice Cream Dodge of Cam Nixey. Much like Road Atlanta was earlier in the season, drivers would wheel hop the turns and slide off track as DuQuoin last-place finisher the #7 Woods Towing & Transportation Toyota of Evan Hunter would find out as he spun in Turn 1 collecting Cam Nixey and Nixey would trail the field as they entered the turn known as "The Inner Loop" as Jefferson would lose control of his car and slammed hard into the tire berriers on the passenger side of his car, the car was destroyed, but the driver was able to climb out uninjured, but his day done.

Rounding out the bottom five were drivers who were all involved in wrecks; 35th went to Nazareth last-place finisher the #07 Sims Metal Management Ford of Nick Kennedy taken out in a wreck on lap later. 34th through 32nd respectively was the #32 Van Dyk Baler / Bollegraaf Chevrolet of Kevin McHugh, the #97 Hurst Motorsports / Team Little Racing Chevrolet of Joshua Rush and Bristol last-place finisher the #20 Rockstar / Royal Purple Toyota of Gustavo Arocha, all taken out on a Lap 5 crash.
