Mike Pearson picked up the 3rd last-place finish of his SCRL CatDog Pro Series West career in Friday's Pick-N-Pull Racing To Stop Hunger 200 at the Sonoma Raceway when his #6 Sunrise Ford / Lucas Oil / Eibach Ford was involved in a multi-car crash after 1 of 15 laps.
The finish, which came in Pearson's 13th series start, was his third of the season, his first in a West Series race since November 19, 2017, when he suffered camshaft problems without completing a lap of the Western Auto Texas World Shootout at the Texas World Speedway, two races ago.
After scoring the first win of the season, Pearson's season was a struggle as he scored his first last place finish at Evergreen before another followed at Texas World and coming into Sonoma, mathematically eight drivers could still win the LASTCAR championship if they finished last.
On race day, Pearson would roll off pit road starting in 26th, while starting last on the field was Portland last-place finisher the #54 K&N Air Fillters / MGP Chevrolet driven by Dexter Black as he would trail the field for the first few turns before a wreck in Turn 4 would move him up the field. While drivers raced back to the caution, Pearson's car spun off track in the Esses and hitting the tire wall, ending his day and locking up the championship.
28th through 26th were all involved in the same Lap 1 crash; 28th was the #99 Bad Piggies Toyota of Marcos Yepez, 27th was #07 Colonial Countertops Chevrolet driven by Evan Rudd and 26th was Fontana last-place finisher the #36 PMC / Health Bridge Imaging Toyota of Jason Larker. Rounding out the Bottom Five was the #9 William Rast / Sunrise Ford / Lucas Oil of King Soking, taken out in a Lap 4 crash.
