Kevin McHugh picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL CatDog Pro Series East career in Wednesday's Goodwrench 200 at the Rockingham Speedway when his #32 Van Dyk Baler / Bollegraaf Chevrolet was involved in a multi-car crash after 2 of 24 laps.
The finish, which came in McHugh's 18th series start, was his first in a East Series race since November 20, 2017 when he suffered engine problems after 7 laps of the All-Pro Auto Parts 300 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, one race ago. With two races to go, McHugh is only one last-place finish behind series leading Tim Randolph.
After suffering early engine problems at Charlotte, McHugh was looking to rebound at the legendary Rockingham Speedway. On race day, McHugh would roll off the grid 8th while starting last on the field was the #26 American Mountain Rentals / Amtrol Toyota of Cole Nixey but by the time the field reached the backstretch chaos broke out as the #11 UTI / NASCAR Technical Institute Toyota of Joe Jefferson would spin out with the #31 Integrated Metal Products Toyota of Maria Valera and as the field came back around to take the caution, yet another wreck would break out.
While running on the high line, McHugh would bounce off the wall and came back across the track, causing a multi-car wreck take place. Once the smoke cleared, McHugh and two time last-place finisher the #1 NASCAR Technical Institute / UTI Toyota of Luke Rainey, would be done for the day, with McHugh being scored in last.
Rounding out the bottom five were drivers who were involved in a multi-car wrecks; 34th and 33rd the #08 Mountain Dew Chevrolet of Hanz DeVice and the #49 Eneos Motor Oil Toyota of Al Lagasse, both involved in a Lap 6 wreck, but Lagasee would complete one more lap before retiring. Rounding out the bottom five in 32nd was Talladega last-place finisher the #2 UTI / NASCAR Technical Institute Toyota of Sebastian Torres, taken out in a Lap 12 wreck.
