The finish came in Pearson's 9th career series start. Coming into the West Series Pearson had shown a brief wave of talent as he won the season finale of the SCRL Rally Car Series at Road America by starting first and leading every single lap, but aside from that lone win his career had been uneventful. In the West series debut at Phoenix, Pearson was able to make a pass for the lead with two laps to go and would score his first win in West Series competition and several more good finishes had kept him in the top ten in points as the series enter round nine.
On race day, Pearson would roll off pitroad starting in 26th. Starting last on the field was the #30 Holleran's Performance Toyota of Daniel Bouchard but by the time the field had completed the first lap the #52 51 Fifty Energy Drink Ford of Kurt Trenchermen had fallen back to last and was trailing the field when the first caution came out when Pearson misjudged and slammed into the pit road entrance wall, the front end of the car lifting off the ground by the impact. The driver would climb out unharmed but his day was done and he would fall to last place during the caution laps.
Rounding out the bottom five were drivers who also had trouble at Evergreen: Finishing 28th and 27th was the #5 Bay Bio Diesel Chevrolet of Richard Torres and Phoenix last-place finisher the #55 First Impression Press / Hinkley Lighting Toyota of Oscar Isaac both taken out on a Lap 5 wreck. 26th and 25th went to the #01 itxtdeals.com Ford of Greg Lee taken out on a Lap 8 wreck and the aforementioned #52 of Kurt Trenchermen, who was also involved in the Lap 8 wreck but was able to limp across the line to complete one more lap.
