Tracey Dent picked up the 2nd last place finish of her SCRL Formula 2 Series career in Round 16 at the Adelaide Street Circuit when her #8 Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro was involved in a two-car crash after 3 of the 8 laps.
The finish, which came in her 16th career start, was her first on the circuit since Round 12 at the Circuit de Nevers - Magny-Cours when she was involved in a single-car crash without completing any of the 8 laps, 4 races ago. In the SCRL Formula 2 Series, it's the 2nd for car #8 and the 5th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 18th for the #8 and the 245th where the car was still running.
After trailing for the first time in her career, Tracey rebounded with a 5th and 7th at Kyalami before finishing a disappointing 17th in the previous round at Adelaide.
Entering the season finale, Eddie Wycombe, Jason Larker and Bafode Sacko would battle for the championship, if any of the drivers finished last, they would win the championship.
On race day, Tracey rolled off starting 17th while starting in the final position was based on Formula 2 rules was first Adelaide last-place finisher the #9 AT&T Williams of Celious Wolf. Wolf would get a slow start as he would trail for the first five turns before passing Tracey, who had went off track before getting back on behind the #24 Marussia F1 Team of Marko Tellez. As the field entered Turn 1, two time last-place finisher the #4 Mercedes GP Petronas F1 Team of Jason Larker, who was running in 13th, spun out in front of the field as the #18 Lotus F1 Racing of Chakat Whitelion got into Pearson's car a little bit before Tracey made her way to the turn and misjudged were Pearson was going and slammed into his car, with Pearson driving away while Tracey's car remained stalled on track and would be pushed off track, her season over.
The remaining Bottom Five would finish the race on the same circuit as the race leaders: 20th was the aforementioned #4 of Jason Larker, 19th was the #24 Marussia F1 Team of Marko Tellez, 18th was two time last-place finisher the #12 Renault F1 Team of Bafode Sacko and 17th was the #1 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of Mike Pearson.
The SCRLASTCAR Championship went to Eddie Wycombe, as neither Jason Larker or Bafode Sacko finished last, so Wycombe locked up the championship by default on the strength of 3 last-place finishes.
The Season 1 SCRL Formula 2 Championship went to Muhammad Zain Abdullah. Having only visited victory lane once in his career previous to this season, Abdullah scored 4 wins in this season. Abdullah scored one last-place finish on the season, the first Hungaroring event. Congratulations to Abdullah for having a breakout year.
