Formula 2: Mid race spin places rookie Celious Wolf last at Adelaide; SCRLASTCAR battle set for season finale

Celious Wolf picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Formula 2 Series career in Friday's Round 15 at the Adelaide Street Circuit when his #9 AT&T Williams completed all 8 laps under power.

The finish came in his 15th career start. In the SCRL Formula 2 Series, it's the 1st for car #9 and the 10th where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 6th for the #9 and the 230th where the car was still running.

Wolf was one of several drivers making their SCRL debuts by competing in the Formula 2 division of the SCRL but wasn't new to the racing scene, having competed in the ISCR's Formula B Series, finishing 22nd in points. Wolf finished 13th and 10th at Silverstone, 4th and 11th at Spa, 12th and 9th at Hungaroring, 7th in the first Catalunya before scoring his first career SCRL win in Catalunya's second event. Wolf's momentum would be short lived as he would finish 14th and 19th at Donington Park, 17th and 3rd at Magny-Cours, 16th and 10th in the last round at Kyalami.

On race day, Wolf rolled off starting 20th while starting in the final position was the #24 Marussia F1 Team of Marko Tellez, a position that Tellez would hold for the first four laps straight, but the very next lap, Wolf would lose control of his car and spin out briefly on track, while no caution would fly, he would be passed by Tellez. Over the next three laps, Wolf cut the distance between himself and Tellez from three seconds to half a second by the time the white flag waved, but ran out of time, with Wolf being scored last.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 20th the aforementioned #24 of Marko Tellez, 19th was two time last-place finisher the #12 Renault F1 Team of Bafode Sacko, 18th was the #1 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of Mike Pearson and 17th was second Magny-Cours last-place finisher the #8 Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro of Tracey Dent.

Heading into the season finale to also be held at Adelaide, the battle for the SCRLASTCAR Championship will come down between three drivers: Eddie Wycombe, Jason Larker and Bafode Sacko. Entering the season finale, Wycombe has a one last-place finish lead over both Larker and Sacko, and if he finished last he would win the championship out right, if anyone but Larker or Sacko finish last, Wycombe would win the championship as well. In order for Larker to win the championship, he would have to finish last, and if Wycombe finished in the Bottom Five, Larker would win the tie breaker of Bottom Tens(9-6). Sacko is the furthest away from the championship, with him needing to finish last and for Wycombe to not finish on the Bottom Five or Ten in order to have a shot.
