The finish, which came in his 16th career start, was his first on the circuit since the Grand Prix of Italy at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza when he fell out with gearbox problems without completing any of the 7 laps, 10 races ago. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 5th for car #22 and the 3rd for piston issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #22 and the 9th for piston issues.
After not completing a lap at Monza, Collins bounced back with a 6th place finish at Shanghai, 18th at Monaco and Silverstone, 15th at Magny-Cours, 20th at Spa, 8th at Yas Marina, 18th at COTA, 20th at Hungaroring and in the last round at Red Bull Ring.
On race day, Collins was scheduled to roll off starting in the 4th spot while starting in the final spot was the #44 Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team of Steve Larker, but just as the field began to roll, Collins's car remained stalled on the track, before forced to be towed back to the pits as the field finished their formation lap. As the field took the green flag, the Mercedes team took the car into the paddock to see what the problem was, it wouldn't be until the second lap that the crew had found the problem; the piston had broken and with the amount of time it would take to fix it, it wouldn't be done in time to get back on track, so the car was officially listed as "out" on the 4th circuit.
The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 21st was the #20 Renault Sport F1 Team of Ty Dent, 20th was the #8 Haas F1 Team of Joseph Huffman, 19th was the #77 Williams Martini Racing of Bryson Hill and 18th was the #9 Sauber F1 Team of Carter Friesen.
