Formula 3: Damian Blue trails for the 3rd time in his career at Red Bull Ring; wins SCRLASTCAR Championship

Damian Blue picked up the 3rd last place finish of his SCRL Formula 3 Series career in Round 16 at the Red Bull Ring when his #97 Advance Auto Parts completed all 8 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 16th career start, was his first on the circuit since the Round 7 at Hungaroring when he fell out with engine problems after completing 6 of the 10 laps, 10 races ago. In the SCRL Formula 3 Series, it's the 3rd for car #97 and the 9th where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #97 and the 229th where the car was still running. 

After engine failure ended his race at Hungaoring, Blue rebounded with 4th and 16th at Kyalami, 9th and 14th at Monza, 16th and 17th at Monaco before finishing runner up to Toma Lakatos.

Entering the season finale, six drivers have a mathematical chance of winning the SCRLASTCAR Championship; Carter Joey, Damian Blue, Simon Fox, Zachary Billson, Elliott Rose and Jacob Rose can all win the championship if either finished last on the day, but if none of them finish last, Carter Joey would be given the championship on the strength of a tie breaker.

On race day, Blue rolled off starting 21st while starting in the final spot was two time last-place finisher the #10 Target of Laura Delano, a position that Delano would hold on for the first three laps when Delano was finally able to make a move, passing Blue in Turn 4, with Blue taking the last spot on Lap 4. As much as Blue tried to gain a spot over the last half of the race, due to tough passing places on the five mile track, Blue was unable to, and by virtue of finishing last, Blue won the SCRLASTCAR Championship.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 22nd was the aforementioned #10 of Laura Delano, 21st was first Catalunya last-place finisher the #26 RC Cola of DJ Dogo, 20th was the #19 Boy Scouts of America of Al Lagasee and 19th was the #17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers of Toma Lakatos.

The Season 1 SCRL Formula 3 Championship went to Toma Lakatos. Lakatos had no last-place finishes, and scored a series high four wins and leading a series high 28 laps over the course of the season. Congratulations to Lakatos for having a great year.
