Formula 1: Cassie Dent only retiree after first lap crash at Mexico City

Cassie Dent picked up the 2nd last place finish of her SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in Wednesday's Grand Prix of Mexico at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez when her #30 Renault Sport F1 Team was involved in a multi-car crash after 1 of the 8 laps.

The finish, which came in her 17th career start, was his first on the circuit since the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas when she fell out with engine issues after 1 of the 6 laps, 4 races ago. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 2nd for car #30 and the 17th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #30 and the 243rd from a crash.

After engine failures had knocked her out in Texas, Dent finished 13th in the next round at Hungaroring, 4th at Red Bull Ring before finishing a series best runner up finish to Marcus Saatchi in the last round at Estoril.

On race day, Dent rolled off starting in the 18th spot while starting in the final spot was two-time last-place finisher the #94 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Jack Hallec, a position he would hold for only the first turn as he knocked fellow two time last-place finisher the #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Trevor Collins into last, a spot he held as the cars competed their first lap. Entering Turn 1, the #8 Haas F1 Team of Joseph Huffman failed to hit the brakes fast enough and slid into the #9 Sauber F1 Team of Carter Friesen, sending Friesen for a spin as drivers swerved to avoid him. As the cars tried to get back going, in Turn 3, Dent, who had moved up to 16th, wheel hopped and slid up the track right into the path of the #19 Williams Martini Racing of Patrick Smith, causing a chain reaction that would also involve Silverstone last-place finisher the #33 Scuderia Toro Rosso of Gordon Schmidt. Dent was hit hard by Smith in the driver's side of the car with both Smith and Schmidt driving away while Dent's car remained on track destroyed and done for the day, not taking the final spot until the field competed the 2nd lap.

The remaining Bottom Five would finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 21st was the aforementioned #19 of Patrick Smith, 20th the #9 of Carter Friesen, 19th the #33 of Gordon Schmidt and 18th the #14 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Rodger McLaughlin.
