Whelen Southern: Carter Joey gets first last-place finish in series first race at Ace

Carter Joey picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series career in the DMC Auto Exchange 100 at the Ace Speedway when his #2 Kleet Lumber / Reynolds Insurance Chevrolet completed all 25 laps under power.

The finish came in his 7th career start. In the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series, it's the 1st for car #2 and the 6th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #2 and the 134th for running at the finish.

Entering the Southern Whelen Series, Carter is one of many drivers looking to make a name for himself in the SCRL. In his series debut, Carter finished a career best 2nd at Caraway, in the second event he finished 12th, in round three he finished 5th, 9th in round 4, 17th at Bowman-Gray and in the last round he led 17 of 50 laps to score his second runner up of his career at Martinsville.

On race day, Carter would roll off starting in the 17th spot while Martinsville last-place finisher the #15 TAS Country Homes Chevrolet of Jack Marks started last. Mark's stay would last the first lap before on Lap 2 the #4 DMC Auto Exchange Chevrolet of Chase McDowell fell back but his stay would last only one lap before Bowman-Gray last-place finisher the #00 G. Lopes Construction Chevrolet of James Stabilito took the final spot on Lap 3, but Jack Marks would reclaim it on Lap 5 and trailed for the next seven laps.

On Lap 13 the second Caraway last-place finisher the #14 Motorsports Designs Chevrolet of Trevor Collins took the final spot, but the very next Lap on Lap 14, the #01 Marek Eng. Co. / Holmes and Bahr Chevrolet of Pritti Shah took the final spot but on Lap 16 4th Caraway last-place finisher the #48 Wheelers Auto / Mr. Rooter Chevrolet of Jay Jefferson took last, a spot he would hold till Lap 18 when the #99 Supreme Mfg. Co. Chevrolet of Jeremy Baylor but his stay would last till Lap 20 when Carter took the final spot for the first time, and for the final six laps, Carter was unable to gain any spots, and was nearly a second behind the closest car in front of him.

The remaining Bottom Five were; 19th the #48 of Jay Jefferson, 18th was the #99 of Jeremy Baylor, 17th was the #11 S&R Motor Co. / Pegg Realty Dodge of TJ Dent and 16th was the #15 of Jack Marks.
