Whelen Southern: Jay Jefferson becomes the first driver to trail the field twice in series history at Caraway

Jay Jefferson picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series career in Wednesday's the SCRL Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 at the Caraway Speedway when his #48 Wheelers Auto / Mr. Rooter Chevrolet completed all 15 laps under power.

The finish came in his 9th career start, was his first on the circuit since October 2 in the SCRL Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 also at Caraway after he was penalized for jumping the start , 5 races ago. In the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series, it's the 2nd for car #48 and the 8th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 5th for the #48 and the 138th for running at the finish.

After getting his first last-place finish at Caraway, Jefferson would finish 18th at Bowman Gray, 7th at Martinsville, 19th and 17th in the two back-to-back races at Ace Speedway.

On race day, Jefferson would roll off starting in the 12th spot while Martinsville last-place finisher the #15 TAS Country Homes Chevrolet of Jack Marks rolled off in the final spot. Mark's stay would last only two turns before the #07 Patterson Automotive Group Pontiac of Keith Stevens fell back and trailed for the first lap before he passed Marks on the second lap. On Lap 3, the #28 Ramar-Hall / Haydt Excavating Chevrolet of Trey Wright took the final spot, but his stay was short lived as first Ace last-place finisher the #2 Kleet Lumber / Reynolds Insurance Chevrolet of Carter Joey took the final spot on Lap 4.

Joey would remain in last till Lap 9 when the #4 DMC Auto Exchange Chevrolet of Chase McDowell took the final spot and he would lose ground with the field for three laps before picking it up over the final two laps when McDowell passed Jefferson in Turn 3 coming to the white flag and as much as Jefferson tried, he was unable to pass anyone and became the first driver to finish last twice in series history.

The remaining Bottom Five were; 19th was the #4 of Chase McDowell, 17th was the #2 of Carter Joey, 17th was the #15 of Jack Marks and finishing 16th was Ace last-place finisher the #16 Diversified Metals Chevrolet Chris Kyle.
