Chris Kyle picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series career in last Friday's the Crown Truck 'N' Stuff 100 at the Ace Speedway when his #16 Diversified Metals Chevrolet completed 23 of the 27 laps under power.

Entering the Whelen Southern Series, Kyle had already proven himself in the SCRL, having scored seven career wins and was looking to become the series first ever champion. Kyle's season got of to a great start as he became the first to write his name in the SCRL history books as the first ever winner at Caraway. A finish of 8th, 11th and 6th followed in the three next rounds at Caraway, then at Bowman-Gray, Kyle scored his worse finish to date; a 16th. On race day, Kyle would roll off starting in the 19th spot while the #01 Marek Eng. Co. / Holmes and Bahr Chevrolet of Pritti Shah rolled off from the final spot. Shah would quickly lose touch with the field, keeping the final spot till Lap 7 when the first caution came out when the #11 S&R Motor Co. / Pegg Realty Dodge of TJ Dent made contact with the #10 Ron Bouchard Auto Stores / Red Line Oil Chevrolet of Mitchell Collins, sending Dent for a spin and back to the final spot. Dent trailed the field for five laps, most of them under the caution before Kyle made his attempt at the final spot.

Having lost a lap, Kyle restarted beside the race leaders and was catching race leader Joe Jefferson, when Kyle overshot Turn 1, sending his car for a spin and bringing out the second caution of the night. The race would have to be extended by way of the Green, White, Checkered rule and Kyle was unable to compete due to not being on the lead lap.

Finishing 19th was second Caraway last-place finisher the #14 Motorsports Designs Chevrolet of Trevor Collins, who was the only other car not on the lead lap, as he suffered a fuel injection failure and finish on the same lap as Kyle.
