Whelen: Al Lagasee picks only his second ever last-place finish in caution free race at Holland

Al Lagasee picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in the Genesee Twin 50s - Race 1 at the Holland International Speedway when his #34 American Powder Coating / Warner Chevrolet completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 14th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #34 and the 6th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 3rd for the #34 and the 132nd for running at the finish.

Entering Season 1 of the Whelen Series, Al had proven he deserved to be in the SCRL, along with his brother Jack, the Lagasee family has 10 career wins, 6 with Jack and 4 for Al, as both are former champions; Jack in Season 1 of the SCRL Wrangler Jean Busch Grand National Series and Al in the SCRL IZOD IndyCar Sries. Al started his Whelen career by finishing a disappointing 23rd at Thompson. In the next round at Martinsville, Al showed the talents many knew he had, leading 22 laps and finishing runner up to Daniel Bouchard. A 5th at Stafford, a 3rd in the return trip to Martinsville and another 5th at New Egypt followed as a 6th at Waterford ended his four race streak of having a Top 5.

In the second race at New Egypt, Al struggled and finished 15th, his worse finish of the season other then the opener at Thompson. An 11th at Spencer, a 14th at Riverhead, a 17th at Twin State and a 19th at Stafford were his finished in the next five races. At the second return trip to Thompson, Al survived several cars falling out in the last few laps and tied his best finish of 2nd, a spot he would repeat in the last round at New Egypt.

On race day, Lagasee rolled off starting last a spot he would hold only two turns before the #43 Supreme Mfg. Co. Chevrolet of Marko Tellez fell back and trail the field for the first two laps when Al's brother the #38 P.A.S.E. Corporation Chevrolet of Jack Lagasee was last on Lap 3 who then knocked the #71 Draco / Purple Spring / Fluidyne Chevrolet of Daniel Bouchard to the final spot on Lap 4. Bouchard trailed the field till Lap 9 when Al took back the final spot, and as much as he tried, Al fell behind more then a second to the car in front, and scored his first last-place finish of the season.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 23rd the #71 of Daniel Bouchard, 22nd was Stafford last-place finisher #50 SMG Motoring Chevrolet of Samet Ozkan, 21st was Spencer last-place finisher the #23 unsponsored Chevrolet of Cole Nixey and 20th was the #38 Jack Lagasee.
