Whelen: Danyal Gitirokh trails the field in series first ever dirt event at New Egypt

Danyal Gitirokh picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series career in Monday's Spring Fling at the New Egypt Speedway when his #57 M-M Stone Chevrolet completed all 20 laps under power.

The finish came in his 5th career start. In the SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, it's the 1st for car #57 and the 2nd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #57 and the 124th for running at the finish.

Entering season 1 of the returning SCRL Icebreakers Whelen Series, Gitirokh is one of many drivers still trying to make a name for himself in the SCRL, having yet to visit victory lane, despite competing in several series. Gitirokh made his Whelen debut by finishing 22nd at Thompson, but a career best of 7th at the first Martinsville event is his best finish as the series entered the first ever dirt track even in series history at the New Egypt Speedway, due to no paved version being made.

On race day, Gitirokh would roll off starting in the 20th spot while the #3 D & H Potato Farms Chevrolet of Nick Kennedy would roll off last, but his stay wouldn't last long as the #0 Stakey's Pumpkins / Jessup Chevrolet of Carter Friesen was knocked back to last and remained in last till Lap 3 when Gitirokh entered the battle for the first time, as he would lose ground with the field, remaining in last till Lap 12 when Thompson last-place finisher the #59 Space Fitters / Ed Bennett Prop. Chevrolet of Zachary Fitzwater fell back to last on Lap 12, but quickly passed Gitirokh on Lap 13, and no matter how hard he tried, Gitirokh was unable to pass Fizwater, and the first last-place finish of his career was his.

The remaining Bottom Five was; 23rd the aforementioned #59 of Zachary Fitzwter, 22nd was the #28 Fuel Carrier Corp. Chevroley of Riley Spurlytube, 21st was the #99 Gearhart Chevrolet of Joshua Rush and finishing 20th was the #43 Supreme Mfg. Co. Chevrolet of Marko Tellez.
