Euro Elite 2: Zina Al-Samarai gets first career last-place finish after Suspension failure shortly before GWC at Hockenheimring

Zina Al-Samarai picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in the Round 5 at Hockenheimring when his #37 Knauf Ford fell out with suspension problems after completing 7 of the 9 laps.

The finish came in his 5th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 1st for car #37 and the 1st for suspension issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #37 and the 1st for suspension issues.

Zina Al-Samarai is still a rookie in the SCRL but quickly showed that he had talent, scoring his first career win in his first ever start in the series first ever race at Monza. Finishes of 5th at Brands Hatch, 8th at Circuit de Spa and and arunner up finish at Hungaroring has him sitting as the points leader as the series arrived at Hockenheimring.

On race day, Zina Al-Samarai would roll off 13th while starting last was the #7 Motorcraft Ford of David Dryburgh. Choas broke out in the esses as by the end of the first lap, three time last-place finisher the #73 Knauf Ford of Chakat Silverpaw had taken last, hir car destroyed but limping around the track, trying to gain as many points as possible as shi remained in last until another caution came out on Lap 4 when the #46 Motorvision.tv Chevrolet of Derryl Immel spun out in the esses, damaging his car and dropping back to last as the race was then decided by officials to be extended two extra laps to give the fans a green flag finish. Just shortly before that, Zina Al-Samarai pulled onto pit road and into the garage, the team reporting the suspension had been damaged after getting damage from both wrecks, as he would be unable to complete in the Green, White, Checkered.

Finishing 13th was the #33 Mavi Jeans Chevrolet of Soran Taheri, who wrecked hard in the esses during the first lap of the GWC, the driver was ok but was unable to make it back on track.

The remaining Bottom Five were all involved in another crash during the esses on the final lap; 12th was Monza last-place finisher the #1 Leonessa Group Ford of Jason Larker, 11th was the aforementioned #7 of David Dryburgh and finishing 10th was the #90 Braxx Performance of Mani Salado.

*This is the first time the #37 has finished last in a Euro Elite 2 Series race as well as at Hockenheimring.
*This was the first time in the five year history of the SCRL where suspension issues was the cause for a driver finishing last.
