Euro Elite 2: Jason Larker trails in caution free race in series debut at Monza

Jason Larker picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in the Round 1 at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza when his #1 Leonessa Group Ford completed all 7 laps under power.

The finish came in his 1st career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 1st for car #1 and the 1st by running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #1 and 117th for running at the finish.

With the announcement that the SCRL was bringing back the Whelen Series, three smaller series was created for those who didn't sign up in time for the main series; the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series and the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 and 2 divisions, which would be run across the pond in Europe. Due to many drivers signing up for the bigger series, turn out for the Euro Elite 2 has only been eleven drivers, with eleven spots still open for those that want to signup.

On race day, Larker would roll off starting in the 8th spot while the #5 Orion Ford of Dale Jones rolled off the grid in the final spot. When the field took the green flag and entered turn one, Larker pulled sharply to the left, getting out of the racing grove to allow everyone else to pass as he dropped back to last, the driver telling his crew he had missed a shift, and by the time the leaders entered Turn 3, Larker was nearly three seconds behind. Due to no cautions flying during the event or no one dropping out, Larker remained in last for every single lap, trailing the field by nine seconds at the checkered flag flew.

The remaining Bottom Five finished on the same lap as the race leaders; 10th was the aforementioned #5 of Dale Jones, 9th was the #73 Knauf Ford of Chakat Silverpaw, 8th was the #33 Mavi Jeans Chevrolet of Soran Taheri and 7th was the #8 Italicus Ford of Leroy Jones.
