Formula 1: Mid race spin at Silverstone gives rookie Gordon Schmidt the first last-place finish of his career

Gordon Schmidt picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in the Season 2 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit when his #33 Scuderia Toro Rosso completed all 5 laps under power.

The finish came in his 9th career start. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 1st for car #33 and the 8th where the car was still running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 4th for the #33 and the 218th where the car was still running at the finish. Schmidt was one of seven drivers who were making their SCRL debuts by signing up to compete in the SCRL's highest sanctioned Formula division, driving for Toro Rosso, the sister team to Red Bull Racing. Schmidt's debut started off with a 9th at Melbourne, 8th at Bahrain, 19th at Hockenheimring, 17th at Zandvoort, 17th at CTMP, 18th at Monza, 18th at Shanghai before finishing 19th in the last round at Monaco.

On race day, Schmidt rolled off starting 21st while starting in the final spot for the third race in a row was the #3 Red Bull Racing of Marcus Saatchi. Saatchi would trail the field for the first two laps around the 5.141 mile road course as the field entered Turn 8, Schmidt had worked his way up to 18th as he was battling Shanghai last-place finisher the #11 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Trey Wright as the two cars made contact, sending Schmidt for a spin, sliding off the track and into the grass. Schmidt would quickly rebound before getting back on track and would try to climb back up, but was unable to gain a position over the final two laps, finishing 28 seconds behind the race leaders.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #3 of Marcus Saatchi, 20th was the #7 Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro of Sebastian Torres, 19th was the aforementioned #11 of Trey Wright and 18th was Monza last-place finisher the #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Trevor Collins.
