Formula 1: Richard Torres crashes out early in the Formula One's first ever event at Monaco

Richard Torres picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series career in the Season 2 Grand Prix of Monaco at the Circuit de Monaco when his #5 Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro was involved in a single-car crash without completing any of the 8 laps.

The finish came in his 8th career start. In the SCRL Red Bull Formula One Series, it's the 2nd for car #5 and the 15th from a crash. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 13th for the #5 and the 233rd from a crash. Despite having never competed in a Formula One event, Richard had found success in other series the SCRL sanctioned, as he has scored 5 career wins and is a former champion of the SCRL V8 Supercar Series. Richard made his debut at Melbourne, finishing 20th after being caught up in the first crash just seconds after the green was waved. Finishes of 14th at Bahrain and a 12th at Hockenheimring would follow before Richard finally scored his first points finish, a 3rd at Zandvoort. A 18th at CTMP, 20th at Monza and a 15th at Shanghai in the last round would continue the bad luck string for Ferrari.

On race day, Richard rolled off starting 7th while starting in the final spot for the second race in a row was the #3 Red Bull Racing of Marcus Saatchi, a spot that Saatchi would hold for the first thirteen turns when the battle for last quickly ended as Torres had fallen back to the 8th spot when he lost control of his car and slammed into the tire barrier in Turn 14, ending his day without completing a lap in the season's more historic event.

Finishing 21st was two-time last-place finisher the #94 Sahara Force India F1 Team of Jack Hallec, who found trouble in the exact same turn just three laps later, ending his day early.

Finishing 20th was the #20 Renault Sport F1 Team of Ty Dent, who crashed coming to the checkered flag, unable to complete the final lap and was scored the last car out of the event.

Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 19th the #33 Scuderia Toro Rosso of Gordon Schmidt and 18th was Monza last-place finisher the #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Trevor Collins.
