Aaron John-Steel picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Formula E Series Presented by Twitter career in the Season 2 Mexico City ePrix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez when his #19 Boy Scouts of America completed all 8 laps under power.
The finish came in his 7th career start. In the SCRL Formula E Series, it's the 2nd for car #19 and the 4th where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 9th for the #19 and the 220th where the car was still running. Steel was a brand new rookie looking to make a name for himself in the SCRL's second highest formula division, signing to drive for Dale Coyne in a one season ride to compete for the championship. In his debut at Adelaide, Steel finished an impressive 4th before he would struggle in the next round at Shanghai, finishing a disappointing 17th. An 11th at Vancouver and back-to-back 6th place finishes at Monaco and Toronto would follow before finishing 12th in the last round at Long Beach.
On race day, Steel rolled off starting 12th while starting in the final spot was Long Beach race winner the #63 Susan G. Komen Foundation of Kerri Love, a spot that she would hold for a full lap before entering Turn 2 she knocked the #20 Fuzzy's Ultra Premium Vodka of TJ Dent into the final spot, a position that Dent would hold till the first caution when Vancouver last-place finisher the #3 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum of Danyal Gitirokh fell back to last, pitting for a flat tire. Back out on track, Gitirokh would remain in last till Lap 6 when he passed Dent back, but the battle for last would end coming to the white flag.
While racing for 15th, Steel was trying to make a move on the #8 NTT Data / TNT Energy Drink of Eli Bright entering the final turn, but the two cars would make contact, sending both cars for a spin, bringing out the second and final caution, just seconds before Jay Jefferson was about to take the white flag. Steel was slow to get his car restarted, but when he finally did, he had fallen back to the final spot, and with the race ending under the yellow flag due to the spin, Steel coasted back around to be scored in the final spot.
Rounding out the Bottom Five were: 21st was the aforementioned #20 of TJ Dent, 20th was the #8 of Eli Bright, 19th was the #3 of Danyal Gitirokh and 18th was the #98 Integrity Energee Drink of Joshua Rush.
