Whelen Southern: Ty Dent gets first career last-place finish in series first race at Motor Mile; Jay Jefferson locks up SCRLASTCAR Championship one race early

Ty Dent picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series career in the Adams Construction / Star Country 150 at the Motor Mile Speedway when his #41 Ford completed all 52 laps under power.

The finish came in his 11th career start. In the SCRL Snap-On Tools Whelen Southern Series, it's the 1st for car #41 and the 10th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 2nd for the #41 and the 148th for running at the finish.

Ty is one half of the Dent brothers who have competed in the SCRL, competing in the first ONL Classic Truck Series where, along with his brother TJ, both drivers scored their lone SCRL victories, with TJ winning at Charlotte and Ty winning the season and series finale at Homestead. Both brothers have competed in only a few series since then, with Ty focusing on his own racing league, which you can follow here.

Ty made his Southern Series debut at Caraway finishing 9th, before in the very next event Ty scored a runner up finish to Jay Jefferson. A finish of 8th and 10th in the next two Caraway events followed before a slump followed: a 13th at Bowman-Gray, 9th at Martinsville, 6th at Ace, 5th at Ace, 14th Caraway before finishing 16th in the last round at Caraway.

On race day, Ty would roll off starting 8th spot while for the second race in a row fifth Caraway last-place finisher the #04 WTQR / Foothill Ford of Joe Jefferson rolled off from the final position, this time Jefferson's stay wasn't long as by the end of the first lap, second Ace last-place finisher the #16 Diversified Metals Chevrolet of Chris Kyle, who would trail for the first two laps before first Ace last-place finisher the #2 Kleet Lumber / Reynolds Insurance Chevrolet of Carter Joey entered the battle on Lap 3, but he would stay there only two laps when the #041 Ty Dent Motorsports Dodge of TJ Dent took last on Lap 5. TJ would remain in last for two laps as well when he passed the #07 Patterson Automotive Group Pontiac of Keith Stevens into the final spot on Lap 8.

Stevens wouldn't be on last for long as on Lap 9 the #28 Ramar-Hall / Haydt Excavating of Trey Wright entered the battle and once again, he only held the final spot for two laps when he knocked Stevens back to last on Lap 12. Stevens this time struggled to keep up for eight laps, until finally making a move on Lap 20 when he knocked the #4 DMC Auto Exchange Chevrolet of Chase McDowell into last on Lap 21. McDowell would stay in last for four laps when Stevens fell back to last for a third time on Lap 26. Once again Stevens lost touch with the field for a few laps when Ty entered the battle for the first time on Lap 34.

Ty would find trouble himself keeping up as he trailed nearly two seconds behind the leaders, and for ten laps in the final spot before he knocked current SCRLASTCAR Championship leader two-time last-place finisher the #48 Wheelers Auto / Mr. Rooter Chevrolet of Jay Jefferson. Jefferson's stay would be brief when the very next lap Bowman-Gray last-place finisher #00 G. Lopes Construction Chevrolet of James Stabilito took last and appeared on his way to his second last-place finish, but a caution would come out setting up a Green, White, Checkered(GWC). When the green came back out, Stabilito trailed for the first lap, but in Turn 2, he passed Ty and with less then a half lap to go, Ty was unable to gain a spot and scored his first last-place finish of his career.

The remaining Bottom Five were; 19th the #4 of Chase McDowell, 18th the #00 of James Stabilito, 17th was the #28 of Trey Wright and 16th was the #2 of Carter Joey.

Entering the last race at Ace Speedway, no one is able to beat Jay Jefferson. Despite having only one more last-place finish, Jefferson would win the tie-breaker with most Bottom 5 and Bottom 10 finishes.
