Euro Elite 1: Despite late race spin, Tony Newman wins SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 Championship by 1 point; Floyd Wilson wins SCRLASTCAR in tie breaker

Tony Newman picked up the 2nd last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 career in Round 12 at Nurburgring when his #21 Port Cirt Race Cars Chevrolet completed all 10 laps under power.

The finish, which came in his 12th career start, was his first on the circuit since November 27, 2018, in Round 6 at the Kyalami Circuit where he completed all 11 laps under power, 6 races ago. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1, it's the 2nd for car #21 and the 7th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 13th for the #21 and the 150th for running at the finish.

After scoring his 4th career last-place finish at Kyalami, Newman would rebound in the very next race, scoring win #2 of the season at Red Bull Ring, a 9th at Catalunya and a 10th at Hungaroring. In Round 10 at Monaco, Newman picked up his series leading 3rd win of the season, finishing just ahead of points rival Bulldog67. In the last round at Silverstone, Newman finished 12th while Bulldog67 finished 14th, setting up a championship battle at Nurburgring.

On race day, Newman rolled off starting 16th while the #25 SPI Transport Chevrolet of Alexander Rowe started off in the final spot. Rowe would trail the field for the first lap, but by the end of the second lap, the #51 Bobcat of Buffalo Dodge of Toby Fox had fallen back to the final spot. Fox would remain in last place until Lap 5 when Hungaroring last-place finisher the #83 Food Country USA Dodge of Han DeVice lost control in Turn 7 and spun off track. Had DeVice finished last, he would have .

However with two laps to go, Newman spun out as well in Turn 5, just like Leroy Jones had done just twenty four hours prior. For Jones, he would survive by the skin of his teeth, a 2 point championship win; Newman however broke that record just twenty four hours later, while Newman finished last just like Jones, Newman won the driver's championship by one(1) point over Bulldog67, the closest points battle in the five year history of the SCRL.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 23rd the #51 of Toby Fox, 22nd was the #83 of Han DeVice, 21st was the #25 of Alexander Rowe and 20th was the #36 JEGS Chevrolet of Bulldog67.

In the SCRLASTCAR Battle, Floyd Wilson won the award by having one more Bottom Ten Finish over both Said Ismail and Mark Owens.
