Euro Elite 2: Leroy Jones trails the field at Nurburgring after late spin; Chakat Silverpaw locks up SCRLASTCAR Championship

Leroy Jones picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2 career in Round 12 at Nurburgring when his #8 Italicus Ford completed all 10 laps under power.

The finish came in his 12th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 2, it's the 1st for car 8 and the 7th for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 12th for the #8 and the 149th for running at the finish.

Leroy is a relative rookie when it comes to racing in the SCRL, but he has alot of pressure being the brother to 5 time SCRL race winner AJ Jones and was looking to make a name for himself in the newest SCRL Series. Leroy's career started off with a 7th at Monza, 10th at Brands Hatch, 7th at Spa, 12th at Hungaroring before scoring his career best, a runner up, to Turd Ferguson at Hockenheimring. A finish of 13th in the next round at Sebring and another runner up finish at Yas Marina motivated Leroy as the very next race, Round 8 at Catalunya, Leroy picked up career win #1. A 4th at Red Bull Ring followed the next round and a 4th at Monaco before Round 11 at Kyalami, Jones would impress the field once again, scoring win #2.

On race day, Jones Ferguson rolled off starting 15th while two-time last-place finisher the #28 Micromoney Ford of Turd Ferguson started in the final spot, but he wouldn't stay there long as the tricky three mile track turned out to be a struggle for several drivers including points leader Leroy, who spun out in Turn 5 and would trail the first lap, before one lap later, Ferguson did the same thing, spinning out in Turn 5. Ferguson would trail the field for the next two laps when current SCRLASTCAR Championship points leader, three time-last place finisher the #73 Knauf Ford of Chakat Silverpaw, who would take the final spot on Lap 5 and appeared on hir way to winning the championship by getting hir fourth last-place finish of the season.

However the battle wasn't over, as Leroy spun out for a second time, dropping back to last with two laps to go, and falling almost thirty seconds behind the race leaders and scored his first last-place finish of his career. Shockingly though, despite finishing last, Leroy scored enough points to win the drivers championship by 2 points over David Dryburgh, the closest points finish in SCRL history.

The remaining Bottom Five also finished on the same lap as the race leaders; 16th was the #9 SCM Medical Ford of Ace Horsebutt, 15th was the #31 of Mikail Kose, 14th was the #73 of Chakat Silverpaw and 13th was the #28 of Turd Ferguson.

Due to finishing in the Bottom Five, Silverpaw locked up the championship on the strength of having two more Bottom Five finishes over Zina Al-Samarai; it is Silverpaw's first ever SCRLASTCAR Championship.
