Throwback Formula E: Weak engine prevents Daniel Evans from completing a lap at Shanghai

Daniel Evans picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Formula E Series career in the Season 1 Shanghai Sprint at the Shanghai International Circuit when his #44 Mercedes fell out with engine issues without completing any of the 6 laps.

The finish came in his 4th career start. Evans was looking to find success in the SCRL's second highest division in the Formula Series by signing on to drive for Mercedes and was excited to compete against twenty one other drivers. Evans's Formula E debut started out with a impressive 10th at Mexico City, while he started from the pole at Kyalami, he would struggle to a disappointing 20th before scoring his second 10th place finish of the season in the last round at Hockenheimring.

On race day, Evans was scheduled to roll off starting 4th while starting in the final spot was the #8 Haas F1 Team of Matt Johnson a spot he would hold very briefly, as the field made it's way out of Turn 13 on it's lone pace lap, Evan's car began to smoke heavily and pulled out of the way of the drivers behind him. Evans would coast to pit road and into his stall as the team looked over the car and discovered that the engine had blown up, forcing the car to be retired having not even got a chance to race.

Finishing 21st was Hockenheimring last-place finisher the #21 Haas F1 Team of Cally Joetta, who spun out in the gravel trap twice and was towed back to pit road while repairs was done, the she was sent back out on track to be running at the finish.

20th was the #22 McLaren-Honda F1 Team of Cam Nixey, who would assume the lead on the first lap and would lead every single lap until on the last lap entering Turn 7, Nixey's car began smoking and the engine shut off as Nixey stalled on the track, allowing for Tommy Hudson to drive by uncontested to score the win. Nixey would never make it to the checkered flag and was the cause of the failure was a broken transmission.

Rounding out the Bottom Five was 19th the #5 Scuderia Ferrari of Jeff Bright and 18th the #8 Haas F1 Team of Matt Johnson.

Evans would have to wait six more races until he found victory lane, leading 2 laps and scoring his lone SCRL win at Watkins Glen and would finish 7th in the overall points standings, 27 points behind Season 1 Champion Jonathan Raines.
