ARCA Sportsman: Broken header ends Carlos Santiago's day just laps from the finish at Mansfield

Carlos Santiago picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL ARCA Sportsman Series career in Tuesday's Season 1 Ohio 250 at the Mansfield Motorsports Park when his #24 Pepsi / DuPont Chevrolet fell out with header problems after completing 23 of the 25 laps.

The finish came in his 2nd start. In the SCRL ARCA Sportsman Series, it's the 1st for car #24 and the 1st for header issues. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 14th for the #24 and the 19th for header issues.

Santiago was one of twelve drivers making their SCRL debuts by signing up to compete in the third highest ranked series under the ARCA banner; the SCRL ARCA Sportsman Series. In his SCRL debut at the half mile short track in Toledo, Ohio, Santiago started an impressive 9th but would struggle throughout the race and finished a disappointing 17th. For the series's second stop of the season, the series would remain in Ohio but would travel to the Mansfield Motorsports Park, the track's first visit by the SCRL since the SCRL Rainbow Dash Truck Series last ran there in Season 14.

In qualifying at the half mile mile short track, Santiago would qualify with a time of 19.482, 0.286 seconds behind Rocco Twyman's pole winning time, placing Santiago in the 8th position, while starting last was the #11 Melling / Menards Chevrolet of Ray Dent.

When the race started, Dent would remain in last for the first turn before he quickly knocked the #51 Tire Kingdom / Cometic Ford of AJ Jones into the final spot, but the very next lap the #4 Lumber Liquidators / Sauer's Toyota of Christian Russell was spun out by the #29 of Dilan Ebrahimian on the backstretch and would take over the final spot on Lap 2. Russell would trail the field was the green sent racing back under way, and would trail for the next ten laps until Lap 14 when the #36 O'Reilly Toyota of Derrick Edison would go to fast entering Turn 1 and made contact with the #25 Pennzoil / Autolite Chevrolet of Grayson Acevedo, sending Edison for a spin and into the final spot.

Edison would go to the back of the field and would remain there till Lap 22 when he knocked the #66 Lincoln Welders / Bojangles' Dodge of Daryl Lee into last but just a lap later, while running in 20th, Santiago's car began to slow and smoke formed out of the back of the car, sending him into the pits, while just seconds later the #51 of AJ Jones was spun out by the #7 Miccosukee Resorts & Gaming Chevrolet of Carol Dent, bringing out the third and final caution of the day, which would end the race behind the pace car, while Santiago's car was retired, a broken header, just two laps from the checkered flag.

The remaining Bottom Five were: 28th was the #51 of AJ Jones, 27th was the #4 of Christian Russell, 26th was the #11 of Ray Dent and 25th was the #66 of Daryl Lee.
