ARCA Late Model: Flat tire at Salem gives Cole Nixey his 13th career last-place finish of his SCRL career; tied with Nick Kennedy for 2nd on the all time list

Cole Nixey picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL ARCA Late Model Series career in Monday's Season 1 Salem 100 at the Salem Speedway when his #21 Drive Up Super Cleaners Chevrolet finished under power after 18 of 20 laps.

The finish came in his 5th start. In the SCRL ARCA Late Model Series, it's the 1st for car #21 and the 5th where the car was still running. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 20th for the #21 and the 245th where the car was still running.

Cole is one of the most successful drivers in SCRL history, having picked up 10 career wins, which ranks him 13th on the all time win list and has reached the highest peak a driver can be, winning a championship, that coming in Season 3 of the SCRL NASCAR Legends Series. Which he has had a successful SCRL career at the front of the pack, Cole has also found trouble in his career, having finished last in 12 races, ranked third on the all time list behind Chakat Whitelion and Nick Kennedy.

Nixey signed up to compete in the ARCA's Late Model Series, but had found success in the main ARCA Series, having visited victory lane twice at Kentucky and Nashville Superspeedway in Season 1. In his debut for the Late Model Series, Nixey started 15th before finishing 14th in the series first race at Toledo. In the very next race, Nixey not only would win his first series pole, but would go on to lead all 30 laps and easily scored his 11th career win in the league's six year history. A 9th at Elko and a 5th in the last round at Lanier proved that Nixey's momentum would continue as the series visited the half mile at Salem.

Draco Drakul won his second career series pole with Nixey posting a qualifying time of 18.346, only 6 one thousandths of a second behind Draco's pole setting time, while starting last was Elko last-place finisher the #5 Whited Auburn Truck & R.V. Center Chevrolet of Shane Russell.

When the race started, the cars drove around the track to complete their pace lap, but entering Turn 3, Nixey pulled down to the inside of the track and would stall in Turn 3, forcing the start to be delayed for one lap while Nixey's car was towed back to the pits. As the green flag was finally waved, Nixey's team put four new fresh tires on their car before sending their driver back out on track in hopes of getting a caution or any other driver having problems, but it turned out no cautions would fly, giving Nixey his first last place finish in the series.

The remaining Bottom Five would all finish on the same lap as the race leaders: 19th was the #24 Lux Enterprises / Pullen Heavy In Chevrolet of Matt McIntyre, 18th was the #84 Community Pharmacies Dodge of Carter Friesen, 17th was the #9 Champion Direct Chevrolet of Tracey Dent and 16th was the unsponsored #99 Chevrolet of John Norton.
