Euro Elite 1: Tony Newman last in caution free race at Kyalami

Tony Newman picked up the 1st last place finish of his SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1 career in Round 6 at the Kyalami Circuit when his #21 Port Cirt Race Cars Chevrolet completed all 11 laps under power.

The finish came in his 6th career start. In the SCRL Sun Energy Whelen Euro Elite 1, it's the 1st for car #21 and the 3rd for running at the finish. Across all the series in the SCRL, it's the 12th for the #21 and the 130th for running at the finish.

Tony Newman is a veteran in the SCRL, having competed for several years in various series, along the way visiting victory lane two times in his career, his first career win coming in Season 2 of the SCRL Lucas Oil ARA Racing Series at Michigan and in the Season 2 SCRL Wrangler Jeans Busch Grand National Series at Bristol. Newman finished 11th in his Whelen Euro Elite 2 debut at Monza, a 7th at Brands Hatch before picking up career win #3 at Circuit de Spa by leading the final lap. A finish of 6th at Estoril and a 10th at Hockenheimring in the last round proved his win was not a fluke as the driver had skill in the cars.

On race day, Newman would roll off starting in the 22nd spot while Circuit de Spa last-place finisher the #87 Frisby Prancer Dodge of Ryan Rush. A caution free race once again happened at Kyalami as Newman had fallen back to last by Turn 7 and would lose touch with the field, falling nearly fifteen seconds by the end of the race.

The remaining Bottom Five also finished the race on the lead lap; 23rd was the #51 Bobcat of Buffalo Dodge of Toby Fox, 22nd was the #44 of Greg Lee, 21st was the #39 of Matt Hamil and finishing 20th was the #87 of Ryan Rush.
